Top 5 Videos: What Are the Different Industrial Post-Processing Techniques?

For this week, first, check out the video from Ridge Systems which looks at six common post-processing techniques for professional 3D printed parts. Next, follow the Swiss students who used 3D printing to create parts for their record-breaking hybrid rocket before watching a video on how Kaizen PLM and Siemens are enabling additive manufacturing on demand. Top 1: Six post-processing techniques for professional 3D printed parts

If you’re a 3D printing enthusiast, or use additive manufacturing in your profession, you probably know that once the printing process is complete, a post-processing step is often necessary. Hawk Ridge Systems, a U.S.-based company that specializes in 3D printing and design solutions, takes a look at different post-processing techniques for finalizing parts. These include painting, tinting and steam smoothing methods:

Top 2: 3D Printed Rocket Parts

Every year, ARIS launches innovative aerospace projects for students at Swiss universities. In this program, the students had to design a rocket in less than a year. This next video follows ARIS PICCARD, the group that were able to create a hybrid rocket that reached over 6 kilometers, setting a new record. In order to quickly test different prototypes, the students opted for 3D printing and in particular the FDM process. For the more demanding parts, such as the hinge of the hatch, the students opted for selective laser sintering (SLS), a technology that makes it possible to manufacture very light components and integrate several functions into a single part. Top 3: Additive Manufacturing on Demand

One of the main advantages of additive manufacturing, and more specifically 3D technologies, is the ability to design parts quickly, and more importantly, on demand. In partnership with Siemens, Kaizen PLM provides 3D printed parts worldwide to customers with diverse needs. To do so, the company uses a large network of professionals specialized in the additive manufacturing industry. When a part is missing, the company is committed to designing it much faster than traditional methods. Check out the video below to see how it works:

Top 4: Using Benchmarks for Additive Manufacturing

We’ve all heard it before. Often, technology companies make big promises about their products and how they will benefit your business, but how can you really know whether your needs will be addressed? In this video, Markforged shows the story Cobb Tuning, a company that creates enhancement components for car enthusiasts, explaining why they chose to adopt the Markforged platform for durable production tooling. Cobb Tuning had already adopted 3D printing for prototyping and product development, but they needed to find a solution that could streamline their production processes to keep pace with a very fast product release cycle.

Top 5: USA Luge Adopts Stratasys 3D Printing

Okay, this one is maybe a little older than one week, but in honor of the Winter Olympics that are currently happening, we wanted to bring it to your attention. You may have already heard of Luge, the sport involves a one or two person sled racing down a track at top speeds. Of course, famously the athletes are timed to the thousandth of a second, meaning that each moment counts. For these reasons, USA Luge turned to 3D printing and more specifically FDM technology from Stratasys to help to stay ahead of the competition. Check out the video from Stratasys to learn more.
