Top 5 Videos: 3D Printing Users’ Perspectives on the AM Industry

Published on June 9, 2024 by Isaac B.

Welcome to our compilation of this week’s most compelling 3D printing highlights. We kick off this week’s edition with our very own video, presenting different 3D printing users in various sectors and uncovering their visions and insights on the industry of additive manufacturing. Next up, the build team at Critical takes us through the process of widebodying a Volkswagen mini split bus go-kart using 3D printing technology. Moving forward, BunkeredGold introduces Cobra Golf‘s release of the first-ever commercially available set of 3D printed irons, detailing how the use of 3D printing will enhance your game. Next, Chuck from CHEP demonstrates how 3D printing can solve more mundane, everyday problems. Wrapping up, 3DExplained host, Elliot, gives detailed guidance on post-processing steps, sharing tips and insights on achieving an optimal finish and improved print quality. Let’s get started!

Top 1: What Vision Do 3D Printing Users Have About the Industry and RAPID + TCT?

First, we present our very own video, highlighting the insights of different 3D printing users within the industry. Through these interviews, we learn of their visions of the AM industry and the importance of events such as RAPID + TCT in driving the sector’s growth and technology adoption. From June 25th to 27th, North America’s largest additive manufacturing and industrial 3D printing event will open its doors in Los Angeles, California.

Top 2: 3D Printed Widebody VW Split Go Kart

In this video by Critical, we’re taken through the process of widebodying a Volkswagen mini split bus go-kart, all based on a viewer’s suggestion to the team. The team uses a 3D-printed widebody kit from BlackboxSTL, scaled up 1000%, and customized to fit the kart. After printing and scaling the parts, they spend several days fitting and customizing them to the kart’s body. Eventually, the team showcases its kart at the SWK Grillkväll event, putting it to the test through drag races.

Top 3: Cobra Golf’s LIMIT3D 3D Printed Irons

Next up, BunkeredGold introduces Cobra Golf’s release of the first-ever commercially available set of 3D printed irons, sparking curiosity about the future of golf club design. The Cobra 3D printed iron combines the precision of a blade with the forgiveness of a game improvement iron, achieved through a thorough process of laser binding stainless steel powder. Tested on the Tour course at Camiral Golf & Wellness in Spain, the host is impressed with its performance and reports that it delivers remarkable distance and consistency even on off-center hits.

Top 4: Solving Everyday Problems with 3D Printing

Fourth in line, Chuck from CHEP demonstrates how 3D printing can solve more mundane, everyday problems by addressing an issue with his patio umbrella that doesn’t fit properly in a table. He designs a custom insert in Tinkercad to replace the existing soft insert on the table, ensuring a snug fit for the umbrella. Chuck then showcases the printing process on both a Creality Ender 3 V3 SE and a K1C printer with a 0.6 nozzle, highlighting the differences in printing time and quality.

Top 5: Post-Processing Your Resin 3D Prints

We finish with another video from the 3Dnatives team, showcasing our last episode of 3DExplained! This time, our host, Elliot, gives detailed guidance on post-processing steps, sharing tips and insights on achieving an optimal finish and improved print quality. Starting with safety precautions when handling resin prints, Elliot provides a comprehensive overview of everything post-processing involves, from rinsing to remove uncured resin to sanding, priming and painting.
