Top 5 Videos Christmas Edition

This week we found the top 5 videos about 3D printing and the way additive manufacturing is changing production. The technology has infiltrated many sectors, from medical to automotive: check our selection of the week to keep up with the innovations! If you enjoy these, you can view even more 3D printing videos on our Youtube channel. Hope you’ll enjoy and have a great Sunday!

Top 1: High School Students Spread Holiday Cheer with 3D Printing

Students at Alonso High School in Florida have 3D printed holiday ornaments for over 100 families in need. After using Blender software to model the ornaments and they were 3D printed in the Modeling and Simulation class offered at the high school. The ornaments were then sent to children at Sullivan Partnership Elementary to take home to their families.

Top 2: 3D Printed Presents

If you’re looking for a unique gift, to add a personal touch or just in a rush to find last minute presents, these 3D printed presents are an ideal solution. This video covers a range of presents from puzzles, toys and games, to more practical options. All these gifts are made of PLA and can be printed on desktop 3D printers. You can find the printable models for each in the video description HERE.

Top 3: Update Your Ornaments with a Corona Virus Bauble

This video shows you how to 3D print your own Covid-19 bauble. The ornament’s design is based on the official renderings of the coronavirus. The original bauble was modelled on Fusion360 and printed in PLA using a Prusa Mk3s. You can read the instructions for designing, printing, and assembling the bauble on instructable as well as ready to print stl. files on thingiverse.

Top 4: 3D Printed Christmas Cottage

While not as pertinent, this Christmas cottage is a cheery alternative to the Covid-19 bauble. The cottage was printed on the Creality Ender 3 Pro, using a multicolour gradient change PLA filament. It takes just over 15 hours to print, but you can watch a timelapse of this process below. The files to print the Christmas cottage are available on minifactory along with thousands of other ready to print files.

Top 5: General Motors open 3D printing centre

General Motors announced the opening of the 15,000-square-foot Additive Industrialization Center, a ground-up facility exclusively dedicated to “productionizing” 3D printing technology in the automotive industry. GM believe 3D printing will help transform their operations in product development, motorsports and manufacturing. The comprehensive facility includes 24 3D printers, which create polymer and metal solutions. GM’s additive design and manufacturing team leverages a number of processes at the AIC, including selective laser sintering, selective laser melting, Multi-Jet Fusion and fused deposition modeling. You can find out more by watching the video below.
