Founded by Greg Mark in February 2013, Markforged has grown into one of the largest 3D printing manufacturers in the desktop 3D printing market. Markforged, an American company, was founded with the goal of solving a manufacturing problem. Traditional processes like casting were too slow and very high costs, whereas additional manufacturing was fast and cost-effective.
In 2014 Markforged released the Mark One, the first 3D printer able to print both the quality and performance of traditional manufacturing whilst being as fast and low-cost as additional manufacturing. This enabled high-performance parts printed in under 24 hours. In addition, carbon fibre can be printed which have the strength as aluminium whilst being considerably lighter.
In January 2017, Markforged announced their Metal X 3D printer. This 3D printer is a cost-effective way to 3D print metal parts. This brings affordable metal 3D printing to the masses and the ability to print high-quality, one-off pieces.
