Interview With Kristin Mulherin

According to “The State of Women in 3D Printing” report, published by Sculpteo in 2020, the majority of women in the additive manufacturing sector are active in sales, marketing and R&D departments. In addition, there was a notable gap between women and men in education. Add to this the lack of diversity in the 3D printing industry, and you have an unbalanced representation of the world we live in. To combat this disparity, organizations and communities are springing up around the world; one of them is Women in 3D Printing.

Women in 3D Printing (Wi3DP), founded in 2014, aims to promote, support and inspire women who use additive manufacturing on a daily basis. Through different initiatives, they seek to increase the visibility of women in 3D printing and encourage more and more women to become part of these new technologies. Their president, Kristin Mulherin tells us more about their role and Wi3DP’s mission in the following video interview:

Finally, Kristin ends the interview by talking about the women who have inspired her throughout her career. She explains, “There have been several women that I’ve come across. And what they’ve inspired me in is that they have maintained their femininity, and they have maintained being a woman, [while] still, being very, very successful in the manufacturing space.” With this closing, the growing presence of successful women in 3D printing is highlighted. This is possible, among other things, thanks to these types of initiatives being carried out by these organizations. You can learn more about Women in 3D Printing on their website HERE.
