Impossible Objects Raises $40 Million to Boost Industrial Additive Manufacturing

On September 11, 2026, the Illinois-based additive manufacturing company Impossible Objects, Inc. announced a $40 million Series B funding round to scale its proprietary Composite-Based Additive Manufacturing (CBAM) technology and meet demand across aerospace, defense, and industrial sectors.
Led by Inflection Equity, the round included participation from Aaron Wealth Management, OCA Ventures, Impact Capital, and Excell Partners. The capital injection will accelerate the commercial expansion of high-speed composite 3D printing, capable of replacing traditional CNC machining and injection molding for end-use production.

Moving 3D Printing to Mass Production
For years, we’ve been hearing about the additive manufacturing industry’s transition from rapid prototyping to full-scale production. Impossible Objects’ CBAM technology addresses this by combining high-speed production with high-performance composite materials, including long carbon fiber and fiberglass. The method produces lightweight parts at volume for applications traditionally served by processes such as CNC machining and injection molding. The company claims that simultaneously, the technology eliminates the need for expensive tooling and associated costs.
“We’ve created a fundamentally new way to manufacture,” said Robert Swartz, founder and chairman of Impossible Objects. “We live our lives through things, and we have changed how things are made. This is as important as the mill, precision measurement and interchangeable parts. This funding gives us the resources to bring that vision to more customers and make it real at scale.”
CBAM 25 Performance Metrics
Impossible Objects launched the CBAM 25 in early 2025, and the company has taken five orders and begun deploying the system across aerospace, defense and advanced manufacturing. This includes the U.S. Air Force, the National Institute for Aviation Research, the Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center and Rochester Institute of Technology. At U.S. Army Rock Island Arsenal, the technology can support production of up to 10,000 drone bodies per month.

Production Speed: Prints up to 25 layers per minute, 15 times faster than competing industrial 3D printing technologies.
Material Strength: Produces composite parts reaching tensile strength up to 200 MPa, yielding up to 4x the strength of traditional polymer 3D prints.
Precision: Maintains structural integrity with minimal thermal shrinkage or warpage.
Impossible Objects shared that the $40 million Series B investment will directly fund increased hardware production of industrial CBAM systems, accelerate global customer deployments, and expand sales and field service operations.
Focus on National Defense
Beyond venture backing, Impossible Objects has secured over $20 million in U.S. government contracts and SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) Phase I and II awards. The technology is formally included in the U.S. Air Force Technology Roadmap and deployed at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).
Key defense R&D initiatives focus on high-strength, long-range unmanned aerial vehicles, integrated internal wiring embedded directly within 3D printed parts, and lightweight structural components for aircraft wings and fuselages.
“The nature of warfare is changing as new technologies are deployed,” said Stephen Farmen, retired U.S. Army major general. “As a result, the defense industrial base needs new advanced manufacturing technologies that can deliver robust and flexible distributed production so we can get new technologies such as drone and counter-drone systems and repair parts to our warfighters faster, more flexibly and with radically shorter delivery timelines.”
