HeyGears Answers Backer Questions on G1 Series Cost, Maintenance, and Print Quality

Since the G1 Series went live on Kickstarter on July 23, the campaign’s comment section has become an active back-and-forth between HeyGears and prospective backers. We introduced the platform in our first look and covered the campaign launch earlier. The campaign has already reached its $10 million stretch goal, unlocking a free gift for every backer. As pledges come in, a pattern has emerged in what still gives buyers pause: long-term running costs and proof that the machine performs as shown. Here is how the company is responding to the questions coming up most often.

The Headline Concern: Printhead Cost and Lifespan
The most frequent question centers on the printhead, which backers see as an expensive consumable. HeyGears’ value proposition focuses on total cost of ownership rather than upfront price. The G1X uses the industrial Epson I3200-U1HD, which the company estimates can last an average of 2,100 hours under normal use with routine automatic maintenance, compared with 700 hours for the Epson F1080 in the entry-level G1. HeyGears also points to roughly 3x faster UV printing and 9x higher lifetime output per head, arguing that fewer replacements offset the initial cost.
The company also states that printheads carry a 180-day warranty with repair or replacement subject to inspection, while the printer unit comes with a comprehensive one-year warranty. Additionally, U.S. and European customers can access support from local service engineers.

Maintenance, Cleaning, and Idle Time
A related worry is clogging, especially for users who will not print every day. According to HeyGears, the G1 Series runs three cleaning modes: Jetting, Regular Cleaning, and Deep Cleaning, each designed for different maintenance needs.
Jetting is used for quick nozzle checks and minor nozzle recovery. It actively ejects ink through the nozzles without ink extraction to check printhead status, help resolve minor nozzle issues, and keep the nozzles moist during printing.
Regular Cleaning is designed for everyday maintenance during normal use. It uses ink extraction to help maintain printhead performance and can automatically perform maintenance during long print jobs, helping reduce the risk of nozzle issues.
Deep Cleaning is used when more thorough maintenance is required. It uses cleaning fluid to help maintain the printhead system and is recommended when switching between different printing modes, after the printer has been idle for more than two weeks, or when more comprehensive maintenance is needed.
Together, the three cleaning modes help maintain printhead performance and keep printing consistent over the long term.
The Total-Cost-of-Ownership Case for Ink
Ink pricing is the third recurring cost question. HeyGears develops its own UV and full-color 3D inks, tuned for its printheads, and says it has deliberately kept prices low on the high-consumption materials that drive daily running costs, such as UV white ink and support resin. The company also highlights low-odor, skin-safe formulations.

The Validation Gap
Backers have been keen to see the G1 Series proven outside HeyGears’ own studio, asking for hands-on reviews, real print footage, and close-up looks at complex models, transparent parts, and fine text. That evidence is now starting to appear. A recent video review (sponsored by HeyGears) puts the machine through a full print workflow and offers the kind of macro, full-angle look at finished results that prospective buyers have been requesting.
More hands-on reviews and real-world testing results are expected to be released in the coming weeks, giving hesitant buyers more of the evidence they are looking for.
