Chilean Army Boosts Innovation With the Opening of a 3D Printing Center

The incorporation of advanced technologies in the training of future military polytechnic engineers has been increasing in recent years. In the most recent example, the Chilean Army has taken a significant step with the recent inauguration of the 3D Printing Center at the Military Polytechnic Academy (Acapomil). This center not only opens up new possibilities in the field of technical learning, but also underlines the institution’s commitment to innovation and the development of practical skills to accompany theoretical knowledge. Thus, additive manufacturing comes to Acapomil with a clear focus: to enhance the training of engineers capable of designing, building and optimizing complex systems.

The center has two printing systems that allow the creation of prototypes of different types. One is based on filament manufacturing, suitable for the creation of functional prototypes, and the other uses resin, ideal for the production of models with complex details and high precision. This technology, which goes beyond the simple manufacture of parts, enables students to materialize their ideas into tangible objects, transforming abstract concepts into concrete solutions. Thus, future engineers will be able to design and manufacture from small components to prototypes of complete systems. In this way, they effectively integrate theory with practice in the military field.
