This year, the annual AMUG Conference will take place in Chicago once again, from March 22 – 26! The Additive Manufacturing User Group association has been organizing this eagerly-awaited yearly conference since the 1990s. Once solely focused on the advancement of stereolithography (SLA) – the first 3D printing technology to emerge – its aim today is to educate and support users of all additive manufacturing technologies. In fact, this is the key feature of the conference: it focuses exclusively on users.

Users can be of all experience levels. The idea is to bring together those who use 3D printing so that they share their valuable experiences and insights with one another. In this way, meeting annually provides a forum for presentations of new technologies, new processes, new machines, and much more. Additionally, the event is made to feel friendly with lots of networking opportunities to become a stronger part of the community!

What can you expect at the conference?

The event will last 5 days, from March 22 – 26, and will deliver presentations, networking sessions, and evening activities to all participants. The conference will provide over 160 speakers, panel and training sessions throughout the week on sectors such as aerospace & defence, AM metal technologies, education & training, medical & dental, etc. We are also looking forward to attending the Innovators Showcase, presented by Hans Langer, Founder of EOS. He will give insight into his background, interests and views on the AM market.

This year, the user conference will be proposing more panel discussions than in previous years. And of course, this year too you will be able to attend the AMUGexpo, lasting the first two days of the show. AMUG has focused on quality instead of quantity in terms of exhibitors, only showcasing products and services directly related to the interests of AM users. Looking back at 2019, the conference had nearly 100 different sponsors from all over the world, who revealed new systems and technologies during the event. This year the group announced that 140 companies are participating as sponsors and exhibitors!

The Technical Competition will take place on the 26th this year, with all entries on display. The two categories for which you can qualify this year are Advanced Finishing and Advanced Concepts. Advanced Finishing relates to visually stunning pieces and Advanced Concepts to applications of additive manufacturing that push the boundaries of possibilities. Last but not least, you can look forward to two keynote presentations during the week!

AMUG Conference 2020, advancing additive manufacturing

As mentioned, the group was once called 3D Systems North American Stereolithography Users Group and focused on advancing stereolithography. After changing its name a couple of times, in 2011 the members of the association voted on the current name, AMUG. The members of the group include those that work with industrial 3D printing technologies, or materials for professional purposes. At the core, AMUG’s mission is to educate and advance the uses and applications of additive manufacturing technologies.
