AMinsider, the Podcast on Additive Manufacturing, Posts First Episode under 3Dnatives

The AMinsider podcast is joining the 3Dnatives ecosystem to offer its readers a new perspective on additive manufacturing. This new phase of AMinsider will allow us to continue exploring the industry through conversations with those who are putting these technologies into practice. The goal is to go beyond the latest industry news and uncover the challenges, experiences, and lessons learned behind their real-world applications.
“Additive manufacturing has moved well beyond prototyping,” explains Filippos Voulpiotis, Managing Director of 3Dnatives. “Today it’s flying in aircraft, sitting inside medical implants and producing end-use parts on factory floors. What I love about AM Insider is that it’s hosted by industry experts who actually do this work every day, so listeners get the real story: what worked, what didn’t and what it took to get a part into production. That’s the kind of insight you can’t easily find, and I’m confident it will be valuable to anyone, from engineers to decision makers, who wants to understand where this technology is truly creating value.”
The podcast already has a track record of conversations with a diverse range of guests. Past guests have included the co-creator of the STL format, engineers who joined Stratasys and 3D Systems in the 1990s, and professionals working on the customization of medical devices using additive manufacturing. With its integration into 3Dnatives, these conversations will continue alongside new episodes on the technologies, applications, and challenges that are shaping the industry.
Who’s Behind the Microphone?
AMinsider is led by three professionals who have firsthand knowledge of the industry they discuss.
- Ryan Hayford
- Dustin Kloempken
- Justin Hopkins
Justin Hopkins has more than 20 years of experience in additive manufacturing. As Application Engineering Manager, he leads a team of engineers who help manufacturers adopt these technologies and bring them into production applications. His work ranges from application development to process preparation for mass production. What does he hope listeners will take away from each episode?
“We want listeners to tap into the collective intelligence of the community, gain practical insights, make more informed decisions, and advance additive manufacturing adoption, all while having a great time.”
Dustin Kloempken has spent more than a decade working in the fields of additive manufacturing, business, and new technologies. As a Business Development Manager at HP, he helps companies identify opportunities to apply these technologies, from product development to production. Throughout his career, he has worked in sectors as diverse as the automotive industry, healthcare, robotics, and entertainment. His goal is for each conversation to offer something new, even to those who are already familiar with the industry.
“I want people to walk away a little smarter and maybe question something they thought they already knew…If an episode leaves you thinking, ‘Huh…I’ve never thought about it that way before,’ then we’ve done our job.”
Ryan Hayford is the head of Hayford Consulting and has more than 15 years of experience advising additive manufacturing users, equipment manufacturers, material suppliers, and research institutions. His work focuses on helping organizations understand the market and advance the commercialization of their technologies. For him, the value of the podcast also lies in its practical application.
“I want listeners to walk away with tangible guidance to support their engineering department and product development teams.”

The First Episode Is Out Now!
In this new chapter of AMinsider on 3Dnatives, the hosts speak with Jason Lopes. He has over 20 years of experience in 3D printing and additive manufacturing. During his time at Stan Winston Studio in Hollywood, Lopes helped bring digital manufacturing to high-profile projects. These include the Halo 3 “Believe” campaign and the original Iron Man suit.
In the episode, Lopes explains how combining digital design and traditional craftsmanship transformed special effects. He discusses the challenges of full-color 3D printing and resin printing. He also traces the evolution of additive manufacturing from early prototyping applications to industrial production. You can listen to the first episode HERE.
