Adidas has created a sensation on the green with the latest addition to its golf collection! The iconic three-striped brand has presented its first golf shoe equipped with a 3D-printed midsole. With this new pair, christened the Adidas MC87 4D, the sports equipment manufacturer aims to combine new technologies with vintage style which sees the sporting goods and fashion brand build upon its rapidly growing collection of 3D printed footwear. This is a timeless unisex model, available in a wide range of sizes and has been available as a limited edition commodity since September 21 on the adidas website and in select stores.
Technology and design are constantly evolving, fuelling ongoing progress. Yet some things never change, defying time and new fashion trends to experience a certain revival. Such is the case with the classic designs of the 80s, which are currently celebrating their comeback. Masun Denison, Global Footwear Director at Adidas Golf, says: “Over the last 18 months we’ve noticed golfers wanting more vintage designs, and we’re in a unique position where our archives provide some amazing product inspiration as we continue our mission to be the most progressive golf brand in the world”.
In response to these trends, Adidas launched the MC87 4D, a timeless model that combines the modern and the old. The Adidas Tiverton, a golf shoe first introduced in 1987, served as the model. It featured pointed toes, brogue stitching and a crocodile texture on a classic leather upper. The new Adidas MC87 4D is clearly inspired by the brand’s earlier model, but extends it in a modern way and spices it up with contemporary enhancements. For example, the MC87 4D features a waterproof leather upper that offers golfers not only a classic look but also greater comfort. What’s more, the Adidas MC87 4D is the first golf shoe to feature the ‘4D’ midsole, designed using additive manufacturing, opening up a new era in golf footwear.
3D Printing the Adidas MC87 4D
If you follow the market, then you’re bound to be familiar with Adidas’ 4D midsole, which has taken the sports world by storm. The design of this high-performance midsole is based on years of athlete data and ensures controlled, precise energy return. The reason for this is the lattice structure of the sole. This is manufactured using light and oxygen, thanks to Carbon’s Digital Light Synthesis 3D resin printing process. This makes the sole more durable and flexible, enabling it to be adapted to the sport in which it is used. This 3D-printed structure also gives the shoe a unique, futuristic design and responsive cushioning. This in turn absorbs pressure from all angles and returns energy to the foot. In this way, the 4D midsole design supports movement where it’s needed. The Adidas MC87 4D thus offers a decisive technological advantage over its predecessor, the Adidas MC 80, despite the many similarities.
In addition to the comfortable 4D midsole, the MC87 4D dispenses with spikes and instead offers rubber studs for grip and traction on the golf course. To make the Adidas MC87 4D golf shoe even more suitable for everyday use, the wearer can easily remove the attached kiltie sole. A fashionable all-in-one shoe featuring advanced performance, modern technology and attractive styling. To find out more about the Adidas MC87 4D, click HERE.
