Top 5 Videos: Optimizing your 3D printing design

This week we found the top 5 videos about 3D printing and the way additive manufacturing is changing production. The technology has infiltrated many sectors, from medical to automotive – check our selection of the week to keep up with the innovations! If you enjoy these, you can view even more 3D printing videos on our Youtube channel. Hope you’ll enjoy and have a great Sunday!

Top 1: An all-in-one CAD solution

JELL is a supplier of parts for household appliances such as coffee machines or vacuum cleaners. It has been using metal additive manufacturing for 10 years now to validate its concepts and quickly offer ready-to-use parts. In particular, it has invested in Concept Laser machines. The company uses Siemens NX software, a CAD solution that allows it to design everything on the same tool. There is no need to transfer data from one software to another: here, designers can model and simulate the results on the same platform, which saves them time. In particular, they use DfAM techniques such as topological optimization.

Top 2: The mobilization of the actors of additive manufacturing

We present you another initiative led by the actors of 3D printing to fight against the current pandemic. In this video, discover how 3D technologies can enable the creation of swabs for faster testing. This time we follow a maker who is printing dozens of swabs from his FDM machine at the same time. Proof that everyone is mobilized!

Top 3: 3D printing with PP

PP is a very interesting material for the additive manufacturing sector because of the mechanical and chemical resistance it offers; it is also a material that is difficult to print and will tend to peel off the tray easily. The Spanish manufacturer Recreus presents its brand new polypropylene and gives us in this video some practical advice to facilitate the printing process and obtain good quality parts:

Top 4: Fixing a keyboard with 3D printing

How do you repair a broken keyboard? With 3D printing technologies you can! After finding the model on grabCAD, Makers Muses uses 3D printing, more particularly, material extrusion technology on a Creality 3D printer. Check it out!

Top 5: COVID-19 and 3D printing

As COVID-19 continues to sweep across the world, the global pandemic has created a major shortage of critical personal protective equipment (PPE) putting healthcare workers at risk.  This has led to a mad dash for PPE, and has thrown one tiny item in particular into the spotlight: the nasopharyngeal swab: used to effectively test a patient for COVID-19. Doctors need millions of these swabs to test and contain the spread of COVID-19 –  the demand for the swabs has been met with a major bottleneck in the global supply chain. This is where 3D printing comes in:
