BCN3D raises 2.8 million for the development of 3D material and hardware

In recent months we have seen what an important role 3D printing plays, with the additive manufacturing companies providing solutions to address the shortage of medical equipment during the health crisis. During the difficult period, it became clear that the 3D printing industry is growing, and BCN3D is betting on this growth. For the second year in a row, the company has managed to raise a large investment for the developments in 3D printing.

The round of investment that the Barcelona-based company has secured this time, in spite of the difficult economic situation in the world, exceeds 2.8 million euros. This is one of the top 10 investments of 2020, and without doubt the most important in the additive manufacturing industry of Spain. The investment was led by CDTI, Spanish National Innovation Agency, and the Mondragon Group, through Innvierte and the venture capital fund managed by Clave Capital, together with JME Venture Capital, Accurafy4 and Danobatgroup.

We strongly believe in BCN3D’s vision of democratizing 3D printing and the role they are playing in this revolution. BCN3D is perfectly aligned with the strategy of our main private investor in the Fund, the Mondragon Corporation, with regard to the additive manufacturing industry“, commented Alberto Bermejo, Director of Investments in Clave Capital, managers of the Mondragon Promotion Fund.

What will this investment bring to BCN3D?

In the last year we have seen BCN3D grow, introducing us to its new Epsilon 3D printer, an industrial machine using FDM technology, as well as reinforcing its already known IDEX technology (Independent Dual Extruder), but… where is it going with this new push, having already achieved in less than two years an investment of 5.5 million euros, it is not only a big step for the Spanish industry, but the AM industry in general as well, since it will help its democratization and adoption of the AM technologies.

One of the first objectives behind the investment is to continue betting on additive manufacturing in the professional market, developing new hardware features, seeking to innovate even more with its dual extrusion technology. In addition, the development of materials by the brand will be reinforced, which has already been demonstrated by signing agreements with companies such as Forward AM, from the German company BASF, and Mitsubishi Chemical. For the Mondragron Group and Danobatgroup, it has finally meant the union between the machine tool sector and the 3D printing sector.

We are happy to have the support of Mondragon. It will allow us to strengthen our innovation plans for the professional segment. We are very excited about this next phase of BCN3D, as it will allow us to accelerate the accessibility of 3D printing“, says Xavier Martinez Faneca, CEO of BCN3D.
