The last few months have been full of novelties for the Spanish company BCN3D. After the launch in 2018 of their new 3D printers, the Sigma R19 and the Sigmax R19, they are starting 2019 just as strong. In fact, they just unveiled they have raised $3 million in funding by Venture Capital firms Accurafy4, JME VC and Victoria. This new round of investment positions the company as the leader in the IDEX (Independent Dual EXtruder) technology. The IDEX technology allows industrial 3D printing in desktop format by doubling productivity compared to a conventional desktop 3D printer.

The company, which began as a project of the CIM Foundation and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, has finally consolidated and become independent. Now, it is one of the most internationally recognised manufacturers of 3D printers. Regarding the new developments that this investment will bring, Xavier Martínez Faneca explains, “With this funding, we will be able to ramp-up our production to meet the market demand and cut down the long delivery periods we have experienced in the past due to production limitations”.

BCN3D and its IDEX 3D Technology

BCN3D will take advantage of this new investment to develop new products that help maintain its leadership in IDEX technology. “We are working on a new range of products to enhance our customers’ experience and take IDEX technology to a whole new level“, explained Martinez Faneca.

Its Sigma and Sigmax R19 3D printers are able to increase production by having independent extruders that allow two print heads to move and manufacture independently. Also, thanks to its developments, the Catalan company has reached the milestone of 5,000 3D printers sold through its worldwide distribution network.

The new investors are sure of the growth the company’s additive manufacturing capabilities will bring. François Minec, Lead Investor at Accurafy4 said: “Since BCN3D introduced IDEX technology, I knew they would become one of the big representatives in the additive manufacturing industry. We have high expectations about the company’s business growth and its ability to dominate the market through the development of new technologies”.

BCN3D has worked with numerous prestigious clients such as BMW, Samsung, Louis Vuitton, Nissan, NASA, HTC and ALBA Synchrotron. Their machines have specialised in prototyping, validation of functional parts and manufacturing tooling.

“We are really excited to join BCN3D’s adventure in this impressive sector that has already started changing the world. The limits of Additive Manufacturing and Digital Manufacturing are still to be discovered and its potential is massive”, added Samuel Gil, Partner of JME Venture Capital.
