HeyGears G1 Series Goes Live on Kickstarter: Pricing, Rewards, and Print Showcases

After weeks in pre-launch, HeyGears has set a date. The HeyGears G1 Series goes live today on Kickstarter, with the campaign opening at 12:00 PM EDT (9:00 AM PDT, 4:00 PM GMT, 6:00 PM CEST). The launch brings the G1 and its advanced sibling, the G1X, to backers for the first time. Billed as the first desktop system to combine full-color 3D printing, 3D-texture printing, and 2D UV printing in one machine, the platform aims to fold a fragmented workflow into a single unit priced under $5,000. We covered the technology in depth in our first look at the G1 Series; here is what backers need to know as the campaign opens.

The G1 Series at a Glance

The G1X runs three operational modes from one platform:

  • Full-color 3D printing for complex volumetric objects with a maximum build volume of 420 × 330 × 130 mm and millions of colors, delivering smooth gradients, transparency, and seamless material transitions in a single build.
  • 3D-texture printing for tactile surface relief, supporting up to 10 mm of 3D texture height, though a maximum of 5 mm is recommended for optimal stability.
  • 2D UV printing for high-resolution decoration at up to 1440 x 2400 DPI.

Under the hood, the system pairs an industrial Epson I3200 printhead with an 8-channel ink setup (6 channels on the G1, featuring F1080) and a quad-layer anti-clogging design. It prints across more than 400 substrates, including plastic, metal, wood, glass, ceramic, leather, and acrylic, and supports optical effects such as holographic finishes.

What the G1X Can Produce

The G1X is aimed at small businesses and creatives who need efficiency. Full-color 3D printed figurines and collectibles come off the plate with colorful surface details and can include transparent material when where needed, with no painting steps or extra assembly required. Product designers can move from a prototype base to branded, textured, and surface-decorated parts without switching machines. On flat stock, the same unit handles creative signage, customized sellable designs, and direct-to-substrate accurate color UV printing across those 400-plus base materials.
