Xact Metal is a young American startup that was created at the beginning of 2017 with the aim of making additive metal fabrication accessible to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). To help reach this goal, Xact Metal has announced the launch of their first 3D printer, the XM200.

Xact MetalIn less than a year, Xact Metal has managed to manufacture a relatively affordable 3D metal printer when comparing it to the rest of the 3D metal machine market. The XM200 will be available for $120,000, a price that is close to the Metal X, which was unveiled by MarkForged a few months ago.

“Priced at $120,000, the XM200 is our first industrial 3D printer, offering outstanding performance and affordability,” said Juan Mario Gomez, CEO of Xact Metal. “We believe it will make a big impact on customers’ Additive Manufacturing needs.”

The XM200 has a print volume of 127 x 127 x 125 mm and includes a 250-Watt fiber laser. Using a patent pending, high-speed scanner, the machine is able to melt metal at a speed of 1.5 m/s. In addition, thanks to its laser beam being orthogonal across the entire powder bed surface, it is able to give “consistent fusing characteristics throughout the complete build area.”

Matt Wood, CTO of Xact Metal, explained that “The XM200 is designed with the needs of customers in mind. The large build volume gives great flexibility to print a variety of parts. The system is highly accessible and easy to use and its modern software architecture is streamlined, intuitive and supportive of visual workflows. And with a compact footprint, the XM200 allows customers to put one or several systems in their work areas.”

If you are interested in owning your own XM200, Xact Metal is now taking orders, with shipping excepted to begin in September of this year.
