Hope you’ll enjoy and have a great Sunday!

Top 1: Tracking 3D prints

Tracking 3D prints and how the devices are used can be difficult. Now progress have been made from the doctoral student, Vikram Iyer from the University of Washington’s department of electrical & computer engineering. He has developed a tech for tracking 3D prints to store the information about their use, without using batteries or electronics. Check out how he is tracking 3d prints.

Top 2: 3D printed school dinners

School dinners are not known for being the most interesting, however this could all change. The Big Bang Fair have introduced 3D printed school dinners. This project was started on the grounds that 71% of 11-16 year-olds think it’s crucial to have access to cutting edge technology in daily life. Check out the project with 3D printed food!

Top 3: Human Corneas

The world’s first 3D printed human corneas have been printed. Scientist at Newcastle University in the UK has created a special bio-ink. The ink uses stem cells mixed with alginate and collagen, allowing to print the cornea from using a simple low-cost 3D bio printer. By using the ‘bio-ink’ in a simple 3D printer they have managed to create the shape of a human cornea in under 6 minutes. From there the stem cells can grow around the scaffolding to create a cornea for transplants. Hopefully this will be able to help the 15 million people that currently require such a transplant.

Top 4: Students 3D print Violins

3D printing in education is on the rise. In relation to this: the Baltimore high school has a 3D printing on the program. The Manufacturing program is teaming up with their Music department in a creative project. The students are 3D printing violins, combining technology and music in a great initiative. Check out this creative project!

Top 5: Ceramic 3D printing

Just earlier this week we covered how the ceramic 3D printing industry seems to be growing. Now we can follow up with how the technology is used in Jingdezhen in China. The craft of making ceramics have historically been found throughout China. Now with the automated pottery through ceramic 3D printing, we can see how moderns technology works together with the traditional craft.

Did you like this weeks TOP 5 videos with tracking 3D prints, 3D printing in schools and much more?
