{"id":7835,"date":"2018-04-01T07:18:54","date_gmt":"2018-04-01T07:18:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/?p=7835"},"modified":"2018-04-01T07:19:44","modified_gmt":"2018-04-01T07:19:44","slug":"american-print-3d-brain-010420184","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/american-print-3d-brain-010420184\/","title":{"rendered":"American researchers prints a functional 3D brain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Researchers at the\u00a0Johns Hopkins University\u00a0have succeeded in printing a functional 3D brain for a mouse!\u00a0A first in the medical world that shows how bio-printing could advance research especially in the surgical sector.\u00a0The researchers have collaborated with the American company Organovo to create this organ and successfully implanted it in a mouse that still lives today and whose intellectual faculties have been improved.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/future-3d-bioprinting1805201741\/\">bio-printing<\/a>\u00a0is growing more rapidly and again shows its full potential: this technology to create cell structures would enable to produce functional organs using this method.\u00a0So far several researchers have succeeded in\u00a0creating a liver, an already considerable advance;\u00a0the Johns Hopkins University now exceeds this progress by printing a functional 3D brain for a mouse after several years of research.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7839 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/cerveau2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/cerveau2.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/cerveau2-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/cerveau2-160x91.jpg 160w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">A functional 3D brain to improve the intellectual capabilities<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Thanks to the expertise of the American company Organovo, they used a bio-inkjet printer capable of depositing droplets of bio-ink also called biotins.\u00a0These are extracted on a culture plate or a hydrogel support and form, layer by layer, the desired organ.\u00a0Here, researchers from the Johns Hopkins University developed glial cells that they mixed with neurons to create the appropriate biotins.\u00a0They have now been able to bio-print a brain they implanted successfully in a mouse.<\/p><div class=\"dnati-inside-article-leaderboard\" style=\"text-align: center;\" id=\"dnati-3998627658\"><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/us06web.zoom.us\/webinar\/register\/3717757396787\/WN_sBfwcCHoQSq1mEANYpWa6Q\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"a2t-link\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"LB (3)\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/04\/LB-3.gif\" alt=\"\"  width=\"850\" height=\"150\"   \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div id=\"wordpress-4bcc6f0c19a78c3472469caf27a544d3\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Research Director Prof. Bernard Merlan says, &#8221;\u00a0<em>We are very proud to have created the first functional brain printed in 3D for pre-clinical testing.\u00a0Bio-printing allows us to better understand certain diseases, especially those affecting the brain because they are very delicate diseases to treat.\u00a0This is a breakthrough for the medical community that can provide a viable option for anyone with a tumour, low intelligence quotient, or neurodegenerative disease<\/em>\u00a0.\u00a0&#8220;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_7838\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7838\" class=\"wp-image-7838 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/cerveau1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/cerveau1.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/cerveau1-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/cerveau1-160x91.jpg 160w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-7838\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The bio-printer developed by Organovo<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pr.
