{"id":7769,"date":"2018-03-26T08:11:33","date_gmt":"2018-03-26T08:11:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/?p=7769"},"modified":"2018-03-26T08:11:33","modified_gmt":"2018-03-26T08:11:33","slug":"ecco-launches-3d-shoes-260320184","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/ecco-launches-3d-shoes-260320184\/","title":{"rendered":"ECCO launches mass production of 3D shoes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">ECCO, the Danish shoe manufacturer, announces the launch of a new pilot project, QUANT-U, which brings 3D scanning and 3D printing together to create custom 3D shoes.\u00a0ECCO is expected to open its concept store in April in the Netherlands to showcase its product.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The well-known Danish brand will join other footwear manufacturers who have used 3D printing to create customized solutions tailored to each individual&#8217;s foot;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/adidas-3d-printed-shoe130420174\/\">Adidas,<\/a>\u00a0has been working with additive manufacturing for some years now to create 3D printed shoes. Therefore,\u00a0one wonders what would ECCO do differently to other manufacturers and how will they compete and make a name for themselves in this 3D shoes market.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7772 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/ecco3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/ecco3.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/ecco3-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/ecco3-160x91.jpg 160w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">ECCO wants 3D shoes to be fully customized<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The QUANT-U project is said to have been initiated by ECCO in order to offer its customers the possibility of fully customizing their shoes.\u00a0The brand says it could do it in just a\u00a0<strong>few hours<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0An affirmation that will be able to be verified in Amsterdam next month.\u00a0\u00a0&#8221;\u00a0<em>During my experience in shoe design and engineering, the concepts of perfect fit, dynamics and ultimate performance have long been an obsession<\/em>\u00a0,&#8221; said Patrizio Carlucci, director of ILE, the laboratory&#8217;s ECCO innovation.\u00a0<em>With QUANT-U, we are now introducing future technologies to customize the functionality and comfort of the shoe without disrupting its aesthetics<\/em>. &#8220;<\/p><div class=\"dnati-inside-article-leaderboard\" style=\"text-align: center;\" id=\"dnati-4226800456\"><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/app.swapcard.com\/login\/event\/additiv-defense-2026\/ticket\/VGlja2V0VHlwZV83MDM4MQ==\/page\/UmVnaXN0cmF0aW9uRm9ybV81NjE4Ng==\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"a2t-link\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"LB (4)\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/03\/LB-4.gif\" alt=\"\"  width=\"850\" height=\"150\"   \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">ECCO explains that this personalization process will be divided into\u00a0<strong>three stages<\/strong>\u00a0: real-time analysis, data-driven design and in-store 3D printing.\u00a0The first step would be to use an\u00a0<strong>anatomical 3D scan and sensor data<\/strong>\u00a0to obtain the wearer&#8217;s footprint.\u00a0A step that could be completed in just\u00a0<strong>30 seconds<\/strong>\u00a0and would provide the essential information on the foot of the person in question.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The 3D scanning and sensor technology used by ECCO was developed in collaboration with a Cambridge Design company.\u00a0ECCO explains: &#8221;\u00a0<em>Sensors measure a multitude of data using gyroscopes, pressure sensors and accelerometers.\u00a0They also measure the temperature and humidity inside the shoe, in order to obtain an image of the individual gait<\/em>\u00a0. &#8220;The Danish brand would then be able to design the 3D model of the sole and work with it.
