There is a new additively manufactured watch<\/a> on the scene: the Exo.1 from Parivas. Based in Los Angeles, California, Parivas is a watchmaking company whose core mission is to introduce a new category to horology: additive watch design. While they aren’t the first brand to incorporate additive manufacturing into timepieces, they are making a bold statement by placing the technology at the very center of their identity and design philosophy. Even the company\u2019s name speaks to this origin. Parivas is derived from the Latin phrase Pario e Pulvis<\/i>, meaning “created from dust.”<\/p>\n

The Exo.1 is the company’s debut creation, named for its exoskeleton-like design. Its standout feature is a stainless steel case 3D-printed via a powder bed<\/a> process. Thanks to this monolithic construction, the bezel, body, lugs, and dial features are all integrated into a single, unbroken structure. This approach entirely eliminates the traditional seams and interfaces where structural misalignments or aesthetic inconsistencies typically occur. To finish the piece, the case undergoes a proprietary sintering process that the brand calls the Solar Dusted\u2122 finish. This technique imparts a fingerprint-like texture of unique waves and ridges that catch the light, ensuring that no two timepieces are exactly alike.<\/p>\n

So, who’s behind this company? Founders Mickey\u00a0Brown (CEO) and Justin Chang (COO) have over 30 years of combined experience in mechanical engineering and additive manufacturing. Before the Exo.1 could come to fruition, they spent years considering the design. “The Exo.1 did not adapt to the technology. The technology had to rise to meet it,”<\/em> Brown said.<\/p>

The Exo.1: Powered by Swiss Precision<\/h2>\n

The Exo.1 is powered by Parivas Caliber P1001S: a customized Swiss automatic skeleton movement built on Sellita SW300-1SA architecture. The watch is certified under the Parivas Chronometer standard, an in-house precision program developed in concert with the Horological Society of New York, built to exceed ISO 3159 international standards. It has a 56 hour power reserve, 25 jewels, rhodium plating, and soleillage decoration. Each watch will be assembled in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n
