A few weeks ago, we took a look at the applications of additive manufacturing<\/a> in the railway industry,<\/a> and now it is time to take a closer look at the impact of 3D technologies on the maritime sector. This sector encompasses a wide range of activities: shipbuilding, freight and passenger transport, port operations, fishing, and so on. We’ll be focusing mainly on ships – boats<\/a> and submarines – to understand how 3D printing has become an essential tool, whether in their manufacture, supply chain management or performance enhancement.<\/p>\n

The aim of this infographic is to provide an understanding of the various applications of technology in the sector – from the production of spare parts to customization elements inside boats – as well as to look back at key figures and dates that have marked the sector. Did you know, for example, that a 180-kilogram keel was 3D printed in aluminum, incorporating stiffeners to improve overall performance? And that’s just one example.
