It welcomed visitors with the usual roller coasters and games, carousels and carnival treats, but the park had a “dark” side: The Ghost Train. Today, the Ghost Train is one of one of the only original dark rides left in the world. Once aboard the Ghost Train, visitors are whisked through dark rooms of ghastly ghouls and chilling scares. This year, the iconic attraction was refurbished for its 90th anniversary, just in time for Halloween.

The Ghost Train renovation was led by designer Edward Felix, who combined 3D printing and hand-crafting approaches to revitalize the ride. According to Bambu Lab, who supplied the 3D printers that Felix used, using 3D printers helped the team work within budget constraints. With Bambu Lab X1C printers, Felix and his designers created decorations, whole set pieces, and custom parts for the ride.

The 3D scan of the Ghost Train ride

First, the team took a 3D scan of the entire ride, so they could experiment with the redesign. This way, they could try designs out without using physical resources. Once the printing began, the project came to life.
