3DN: What are the new features of Houston Maker Faire 2017? (what has changed? what is new?, etc)<\/b><\/h3>\n

We are adding more presentations and workshops this year.\u00a0 One of the major workshops will be focus on Raspberry\u00a0Pi electronics.\u00a0 The Workshop will be called a Raspberry\u00a0Jam and will teach the process of programming a low cost computer.\u00a0 Houston has one of the largest Raspberry\u00a0Pi communities in the world and the local hobbyists will showcase their Raspberry Pi creations.<\/p>\n

3DN: Can you tell us what this event is for? (What is the goal\/aim of the event? Is there a specific theme?, etc)<\/b><\/h3>\n

The Houston Maker Faire is a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do.\u00a0 From engineers to artists to scientists\u00a0to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these “makers” to show hobbies experiments\u00a0and projects.<\/p>

We are focused on a theme of Houston Strong in wake of the Hurricane Harvey recovery process.\u00a0 Many makers have been assisting each other in the recovery process.\u00a0 Houston’s TXRX Labs makerspace launched a major initiative called Crafters for Good to enable their tools, community and resources to have the greatest possible recovery\u00a0for the community.<\/p>\n

3DN: How will 3D printing be represented at the event? (are there specific booths? are there shows?, speakers?, etc)<\/b><\/h3>\n

We will have a series of 3D printing companies showcasing their latest creations.\u00a0 TXRX Labs, a local makerspace that has built dozens of a custom-build 3D printers for educational purposes.\u00a0 Re:3D will have a booth featuring large-scale industrial 3D printing.\u00a0 3D Distributed will demonstrate their new workhorse 3D printer.\u00a0 Tiny Machines 3D will demonstrate their affordable large scale 3D printer line.\u00a0 PolyPrinter will have a booth showcasing their custom build 3D printers.<\/p>\n

3DN: How is Houston Maker Faire helping to expand the Maker movement in Texas? (Or even in the US in general)<\/b><\/h3>\n

The Houston Maker Faire is helping grow the Maker community through supporting Maker Spaces.\u00a0 Houston has over ten different maker spaces and many more are growing across Texas. Our team has hosted Maker Crawl events to gather together makers at local maker spaces.<\/p>\n

3DN: Any last words for our readers?\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n

The maker community in Houston is quite resilient\u00a0through difficult times such as Hurricane Harvey.\u00a0 \u00a0Many of the makers have offered help and assistance after the natural disaster.\u00a0 The Houston Maker Faire is a close community and important gathering for makers to help each other.<\/p>\n
