In this latest development from the company, they are now working on a project alongside Altair, APWORKS,\u00a0EOS, GmbH,\u00a0csi entwicklungstechnik, GERG, and Heraeus in order to 3D print the entire hood of a Volkswagen Caddy 1.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This partnership was formed under 3i-PRINT, an engineering platform for research and development of innovative prototype concepts. It was under this platform that the group began their project on creating a completely 3D printed front end of the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/c-1-65.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4021 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/c-1-65.jpg\" alt=\"3i PRINT\" width=\"700\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/c-1-65.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/c-1-65-160x91.jpg 160w, https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/c-1-65-300x171.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When choosing their vehicle model to work on, the choice of the VW Caddy 1 (a model that was produced between 1980 and 1990) was no coincidence, as the team wanted to demonstrate that 3D printing not only allows for further advancements in technology but also that it can adapt to pre-existing structures.<\/p><div class=\"dnati-inside-article-leaderboard\" style=\"text-align: center;\" id=\"dnati-1457208749\"><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/us06web.zoom.us\/webinar\/register\/3717757396787\/WN_sBfwcCHoQSq1mEANYpWa6Q\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"a2t-link\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"LB (3)\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/04\/LB-3.gif\" alt=\"\"  width=\"850\" height=\"150\"   \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is from this that the team built their objective to create a prototype of what could become the front structure of a car in the years to come. All members of the team were already aware of the potential that additive manufacturing is starting to have on the the automotive sector, with several projects that have already been launched amongst influential players such as <a href=\"\/en\/mercedes-benz-3d-printed-part070820174\/\">Mercedes-Benz.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/c-5-9.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4026 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/c-5-9.jpg\" alt=\"3i PRINT\" width=\"700\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/c-5-9.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/c-5-9-160x91.jpg 160w, https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/c-5-9-300x171.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe are proud to present the Caddy with an exemplary new additively manufactured front end structure,\u201d said Stefan Herrmann of csi entwicklungstechnik. \u201cThe new structure and the contrast between old and new impressively demonstrates the potential that 3D printing and functional integration offer, particularly for the automotive industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By combining their ideas, know-how, and the latest technologies available, the team was able to succeed in creating the first 3D-printed metal structure weighing only 75 lbs. Printed\u00a0using a special alloy called Scalmalloy that was developed by APWORKS, their\u00a0project ended with their final product of a functional front-end for the Caddy 1.
