{"id":31375,"date":"2021-07-20T16:01:23","date_gmt":"2021-07-20T16:01:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/?p=31375"},"modified":"2021-07-29T15:23:14","modified_gmt":"2021-07-29T15:23:14","slug":"mx3d-bridge-amsterdam-200720215","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/mx3d-bridge-amsterdam-200720215\/","title":{"rendered":"MX3D&#8217;s 3D Printed Metal Bridge Has Officially Been Installed in the Center of Amsterdam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">On July 15, the Queen of the Netherlands, M\u00e1xima Zorreguieta Cerruti, inaugurated the 3D-printed metal bridge installed in the city center of Amsterdam, right in the Red Light District. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">It took 6 years for the Dutch company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/3d-printed-steel-bridge260420184\/\">MX3D<\/a> to allow the public to walk on its 3D printed bridge, made from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/mx3d-interview-300720204\/\">WAAM (Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing) technology<\/a>. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">A titanic job which nevertheless required 6,000 kilos of steel! <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The city of Amsterdam granted a permit for two to this structure and in any case, won over Queen M\u00e1xima.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">If you follow the news of additive manufacturing, you have certainly heard of the MX3D Bridge, this bridge built layer by layer by four robotic arms. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The bridge is the result of collaboration between several manufacturers including Air Liquide, ABB, and Autodesk. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">It measures 12.2 meters long, 6.3 meters wide, and 2.1 meters high. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The printing process spanned 2017 to 2018, relying on techniques such as topological optimization or <\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/generative-design-changing-additive-manufacturing-130720204\/\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">generative design<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> .<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_64778\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-64778\" class=\"size-full wp-image-64778\" src=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/MX3D.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"400\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-64778\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The inauguration of the bridge. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">(Photo Credit: Adriaan de Groot)<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Gijs van der Velden, CEO and co-founder of MX3D adds, &#8221; <\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">When we started this project, the bridge was over 100 times bigger than any other part ever 3D printed in metal, and now that it&#8217;s finished, I still have good reason to believe that it will remain the largest printed metal object for years to come. Our robotic technology finally enables the 3D printing of optimized designs of larger sizes in metal.
