Thanks to its micro-printing technology, and more specifically its two-photon polymerization technology, the company hopes to reduce the environmental impact of concrete construction and offer a greener alternative.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It&#8217;s been two years since the company revealed its Altraspin machine, a printer offering submicron resolution. It could thus create objects of less than 0.2 microns wide. The company has most recently revealed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/champagne-pyramid-120120205\/\">smallest pyramid<\/a> of 3D printed champagne flutes as well as the world&#8217;s smallest replica of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/microlight3d-300120214\/\">Statue of Liberty<\/a>. This time, it is embarking on a project related to construction by joining the European consortium MIRACLE with 5 universities. The project is spread over 4 years and includes German, Belgian, Italian and Spanish researchers.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_64034\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-64034\" class=\"wp-image-64034 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/micro_team.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"383\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-64034\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Microlight3D has developed a two-photon polymerization technology (photo credits: E.Tolwinska)<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Microlight3D will rely on its two-photon polymerization process to design microstructures that will be used as concrete molds. The press release states, <em>&#8220;With the concrete formed using these unique molds, it will be possible to insert microfibers within the microtopographies to create a \u201cphotonic metamaterial\u201d that can convert the sun\u2019s heat into infrared wavelengths that are then projected back into the atmosphere. In turn, buildings made from this material would theoretically be able to expel heat back into outer space without using additional energy.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><div class=\"dnati-inside-article-leaderboard\" style=\"text-align: center;\" id=\"dnati-33913101\"><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/us06web.zoom.us\/webinar\/register\/3717757396787\/WN_sBfwcCHoQSq1mEANYpWa6Q\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"a2t-link\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"LB (3)\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/04\/LB-3.gif\" alt=\"\"  width=\"850\" height=\"150\"   \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The use of microstructured concrete is expected to naturally cool concrete buildings. Therefore, if the concrete can lower its temperature, there should be less need for air conditioning and thus less CO2 emissions. At least that is the consortium&#8217;s goal.
