{"id":29224,"date":"2021-04-21T16:00:24","date_gmt":"2021-04-21T16:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/?p=29224"},"modified":"2021-04-22T09:10:49","modified_gmt":"2021-04-22T09:10:49","slug":"tecla-is-finished-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/tecla-is-finished-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Eco-Sustainable Housing Project, TECLA, has Finished Construction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wasp-moves-towards-sustainable-construction-by-3d-printing-soil\/#!\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WASP<\/a> and Mario Cucinella Architects have officially finished construction on their first eco-sustainable housing project, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/tecla-3d-printed-house-301020195\/\">TECLA<\/a>.\u00a0 3D printed entirely from local raw earth, TECLA originated as a low carbon housing alternative responding to the climate crisis. We have previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wasp-completes-the-structure-of-its-3d-printed-eco-habitat-220120214\/\">covered<\/a> the project, noting its originality and innovativeness especially in the field of sustainable construction<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Now, two years later, we are happy to report that the project has become reality and the first TECLA home is currently standing strong in Massa Lombarda, near Ravenna in Italy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project is one that is dear to its creators, Massimo Moretti the founder of WASP and Mario Cucinella. They note that it will help address two separate needs, creating sustainable homes (addressing the climate emergency) that can then be used as a solution for the global housing emergency, expected to worsen as a result of natural disasters and large-scale migrations resulting from climate change. Cucinella commented: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe like to think that TECLA is the beginning of a new story. It would be truly extraordinary to shape the future by transforming this ancient material with the technologies we have available today. The aesthetics of this house are the result of a technical and material effort; it was not an aesthetic approach only. On one hand, the pair drew on past concepts of architecture and urban planning, including twentieth century metaphors of Italo Calvino&#8217;s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Invisible Cities<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, forever in construction. TECLA\u2019s design also derives itself from the timeless aesthetic of ancient homes with a curved structure and atypical shape. This is also evident in TECLA\u2019s sky lights, named \u2018zenith lights\u2019, referring to the highest point in the celestial sphere imagined centuries ago.<\/span><\/p><div class=\"dnati-inside-article-leaderboard\" style=\"text-align: center;\" id=\"dnati-541927519\"><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/app.swapcard.com\/login\/event\/additiv-defense-2026\/ticket\/VGlja2V0VHlwZV83MDM4MQ==\/page\/UmVnaXN0cmF0aW9uRm9ybV81NjE4Ng==\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"a2t-link\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"LB\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/03\/LB.gif\" alt=\"\"  width=\"850\" height=\"150\"   \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the other hand, the project also relied on innovative modern technologies pointing towards the wider global movement towards customisation, Industry 4.0 and IoT. This is illustrated by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/crane-wasp-modular-3d-printer-construction-industry-251020184\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WASP\u2019s state of the art 3D printer Crane<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It is the first in the world to be both modular and multilevel, and enables two 3D printers to function simultaneously and synchronously.
