{"id":1983,"date":"2017-06-06T07:23:23","date_gmt":"2017-06-06T07:23:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/?p=1983"},"modified":"2018-05-22T16:31:32","modified_gmt":"2018-05-22T16:31:32","slug":"formlabs-fuse-1-sls-printer060620174","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/formlabs-fuse-1-sls-printer060620174\/","title":{"rendered":"Formlabs unveils its first SLS printer: the Fuse 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">At the Formlabs Digital Factory conference yesterday, Formlabs made their big announcement of a new 3D printer, the Fuse 1, and a system called Form Cell, that will manage a fleet of Form 2 3D printers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Known for their SLA Form 1, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/3D-compare\/imprimante\/form-1\">Form 1+<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/3D-compare\/imprimante\/formlabs-form-2\">Form 2<\/a> machines, the Boston-based manufacturer has decided to embark on a journey into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/selective-laser-sintering100420174\/\">SLS<\/a> market, a process that is unique to industrial 3D printers and whose price has traditionally reached several hundred thousand dollars. Formlabs announced that its new printer would be 20 times cheaper than those on the market today, with a starting price of $9,999. Using SLS technology, Formlabs has confirmed that no printing supports will be needed and that about 50% of the unused powder will be reusable. Companies who have already had the opportunity to beta test their new machine and system are already numerous and include the likes of GE, Lockheed Martin, Tesla, and Google.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1985\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1985\" class=\"wp-image-1985 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/image-2-26.jpg\" alt=\"Formlabs\" width=\"620\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/image-2-26.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/image-2-26-160x85.jpg 160w, https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/image-2-26-300x160.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1985\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The first deliveries should be made by the end of 2017<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cSLS technology enables designers and engineers to accelerate their prototyping process by combining realistic material properties with the minimization of 3D printing design constraints,\u201d said David Beardsley, manager at Google ATAP. \u201cWith the Fuse 1, a combination of high precision parts, reduced cycle time and robust materials allow teams to easily iterate throughout the design process and accelerate from whiteboard to final parts.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1986\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1986\" class=\"wp-image-1986 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/image-3-22.jpg\" alt=\"Formlabs\" width=\"620\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/image-3-22.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/image-3-22-160x85.jpg 160w, https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/image-3-22-300x160.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1986\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Based on SLS technology, the Fuse 1 will produce PA11 and PA12 nylon parts<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">As for its robotic arm, the Form Cell, it will allow for production-scale 3D printing, using the arm to operate multiple Form 2 SLA machines at once.
