TECLA is a new circular housing model, created using entirely reusable, recyclable materials taken from the local terrain. They will be launching the first prototype of this habitat in Bologna, Italy and it will be built using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/crane-wasp-modular-3d-printer-construction-industry-251020184\/\">WASP 3D printer Crane<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The aim of this project is to respond to issues such as the exponential increase of population. In fact, a United Nations report published in 2017 demonstrated that the current global population of 7.6 billion people is expected to reach 11.2 billion in 2100. By 2030, it\u2019s nearly 5 billion people that are expected to live in cities. Multiple collaborative 3D printers will work together on the TECLA prototype &#8211; the project has the potential to become the basis for brand new autonomous eco-cities. Moreover, WASP\u2019s 3D printers will use locally sourced clay. This means two things, one on hand, this will accelerate the construction process as the 3D printer can produce the entire structure at once, on-site, and secondly this approach will limit industrial waste considerably.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><div class=\"dnati-inside-article-leaderboard\" style=\"text-align: center;\" id=\"dnati-1270471710\"><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/app.swapcard.com\/login\/event\/additiv-defense-2026\/ticket\/VGlja2V0VHlwZV83MDM4MQ==\/page\/UmVnaXN0cmF0aW9uRm9ybV81NjE4Ng==\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"a2t-link\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"LB\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/03\/LB.gif\" alt=\"\"  width=\"850\" height=\"150\"   \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TECLA was designed by Mario Cucinella Architects, the Founder Mario Cucinella commented on the project: \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Together with WASP we aim at developing an innovative 3D printed prototype for a habitat that responds to the increasingly urgent climate revolution and the needs of changes dictated by community needs [\u2026] A collaboration that becomes the union between empathic architecture and the application of new technologies<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17142\" src=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/prototype.jpg\" alt=\"tecla 3d printed house\" width=\"700\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/prototype.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/prototype-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/prototype-160x91.jpg 160w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TECLA received planning approval in May 2019 and officially started printing in September 2019, the project is due to complete at the beginning of 2020. As for 3D printing in the construction sector in general, SmarTech Publishing estimated this market would reach $40 billion by 2027. The TECLA project does not stand alone, in fact it&#8217;s a wave of companies that are initiating new projects thanks to additive manufacturing. For example at the beginning of the month we reported on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/be-more-3d-first-3d-printed-house-africa-111020194\/\">Be More 3D&#8217;s 3D printed house in Africa<\/a>, and Apis Cor just finished 3D printing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.3dnatives.com\/en\/apis-cor-largest-3d-printed-building-261020194\/\">world&#8217;s largest building<\/a> to date in Dubai.
