A flash of sequins, elegant pleats, fastidious embroidery—this kind of detail, used deftly, will always make a difference in fashion. Why? Because thoughtful design should always elevate a piece. The New York Embroidery Studio (NYES) has been elevating clothing in this way for two decades, and with clients like renowned designers, brands and celebrities, as well as projects ranging from runway collections to events like the Met Gala, it has established itself as a fixture of NYC’s garment district. The atelier is a full-service surface design studio and manufacturing facility specializing in embroidery, printing and laser cutting. Above all, the NYES is driven to bring its clients’ ideas to life through creative solutions. One innovative approach the studio adopted is 3D printing, now with the Stratasys J850 TechStyle printer.

The NYES, known for its imaginative design and production, is using Stratasys’s 3D Fashion® direct-to-textile printing technology to combine traditional embroidery with 3D printing. Merging the techniques introduces opportunities for creativity, personalization and eco-conscious manufacturing. Furthermore, the printer will help them make intricate, tactile designs while streamlining workflows and reducing material waste—a step forward in meeting the growing demand for sustainable, high-impact fashion.

Michelle Feinberg, Owner and Creative Director of NYES explained, “The J850 TechStyle is an extraordinary addition to our capabilities, allowing us to elevate creativity while delivering on our commitment to innovation and sustainability. Our clients are thrilled by the possibilities this technology opens up—from high-end fashion to VIP and entertainment projects. Combining the precision of 3D printing with our expertise in embroidery allows us to push boundaries like never before.”

3D printing is advantageous not only for its precision but also for its ability to reduce waste. Often, the technology is considered sustainable because it can produce less waste than subtractive technologies, and promotes local, on-demand production. The NYES is not the first group to leverage this for fashion, and 3D printing has been broadly used for fashion since the 2000s.

However, Zehavit Reisin, Senior Vice President of Consumer Solutions and Material Business at Stratasys believes this collaboration will bring about new milestones: “This collaboration demonstrates how innovative technologies can transform global design projects and empower studios like NYES to set new benchmarks in the industry.”

This year, NYES plans to host open house events to showcase the potential of 3D fashion to designers and clients. With the J850 TechStyle printer central to its offerings, NYES continues pioneering the integration of advanced technologies and creative manufacturing.
