Top 1: 3D Printed Clothes Changing the Face of Fashion, Innovative and Sustainable!

Zero waste and cruelty free clothing production is becoming a reality with 3D printing as the following video shows. A new age in fashion is about to debut all thanks to the production opportunities additive manufacturing offers. Julia Daviy, a producer and designer of 3D printed clothes has created her first collection. It’s unique in the sense that it is innovative, intricate yet sustainable. Once 3D printed, the materials simply need to be assembled. The fashion fabrics you can work with in 3D printing are not yet the same as the ones we are used to, but as Daviy states, this will soon change and a revolution in the world of fashion is likely to ensue.

Top 2: Formlabs Debuts Two New Materials at CES 2019

We reported in our CES article that Formlabs had debuted two materials at CES 2019. The first, Elastic Resin suitable for printing very flexible objects. The other, comprising Dental Base Resin (gum material) and Denture Teeth Resin (tooth material) for printing dentures. In the following video, Formlabs reveals how a custom denture can be created quickly for $10 instead of the conventional process which is longer and more costly. In the video from TechCrunch they also made editor, Kumparak into a zombie.

Top 3: The Largest Composite 3D Printer is from CEAD

CEAD standing for Continuous Fibre Additive Manufacturing, makes the biggest composite 3D printer in the world. They have found and developed a new technology which combines continuous fibres (glass or carbon fibres) and thermoplastics. Their technology is more reliable and quicker with applications in all industry sectors; building sector, infrastructure sector, etc.  They are able to create very complex shapes and still reduce their waste, one of the main advantages of additive manufacturing in general.

Top 4: 3D Printing with Light is Faster Than Ever

At the University of Michigan, researchers have developed a new 3D printing method which is 100 times faster than normal. The paper published in the journal Science Advances described the new process; it promises faster and more efficient small-scale manufacturing by allowing very quick production of items. If you want to learn more about it you can check our article and the video showcasing the process below!

Top 5: China’s First 3D Printed Resin Bridge

China’s first 3D printed resin bridge was a success. Indeed, the bridge was installed in the central park in Shanghai’s Taopu area. It measures 15.25 meters and is 3.8 meters wide, built from layers of resin and composite materials. It’s resistant, resisting to a large load and made to last for a least three decades.
