Top 1: Automotive 3D printing

Ford has implemented Automotive 3D printing at their Cologne factory by using 3D FDM printing. This process includes Ultimaker machines to manufacture fasteners and tools. The company explains that thanks to this new production method, they can possibly save up to 1,000 € per tool. So far, the American company has created fifty tools to use for its new Ford Focus. 3D technologies also allow them to choose between a wide range of materials, thus testing the resistance of different prototypes. Learn more about how Ford is implementing automotive 3D printing in the video below.

Top 2: The testimony of Adrian Bowyer

Adrian Bowyer, the man at the origin of the RepRap movement, explains the origins of his project of accessible and self-replicating 3D printers through this unpublished testimony. In 2000 he bought his first two machines, at the time such machines were still very expensive as there were no low-cost 3D printers yet. He quickly realised that he could use these 3D printers to replicate some of their pieces. This is the moment his RepRap project began to take shape. The RepRap movement is used both to develop self-replicating machines but also to manufacture a tool that can print all kinds of parts as needed.

Top 3: Plastic bridge

The 3D printed plastic bridge was presented to you this week. The new plastic bridge in Shanghai is soon to be ready for installation. After more than a full month of 3D printing, the architecture bridge is finally taking shape. Check out the printing process, the machine and the materials used in the short video below. Another great proof of the capabilities of additive manufacturing in the field of construction and further following the earlier progress of  made in China within this field!

Top 4: Kodak 3D printer

Kodak officially launched their new 3D printer at Formnext 2018. the new Kodak’s FDM 3D printer is coming to the forefront of the international stage. This sleek compact machine is easy and intuitive to use. It comes with many features to further support that direction. You can here get a glimpse of its unpacking and installation set up in this short introduction from Kodak itself.

Keeping it simple this 3d printed bumper for the Adafruit NeoTrellis M4, is designed for flexible filaments. All to provide protection and comfort to the acrylic case.
