Top 5 Videos of the Week: Women in 3D Printing!

Published on March 8, 2020 by Carlota V.

This week we found the top 5 videos about 3D printing and the way additive manufacturing is shaping our society. The technology has infiltrated many sectors, from medical to automotive! For international women’s day, we’ve decided to pick 5 videos that showcase the daily work women do in the AM space, encouraging more women to join the 3D printing revolution!

Top 1: Danit Peleg and her 3D printed clothing collection

Danit Peleg is a young Israeli designer who has relied on additive manufacturing to design more responsible clothing. In this video, she explains why the way of producing clothes is outdated and why it can no longer work, especially for our planet. The designer claims that only 1% of clothes are recycled today, the rest is burned or thrown away. In the United States alone, 15 million tons of clothes are thrown away every year! By turning to 3D printing, Danit Peleg has found a potential solution: she uses only the material she needs, designs unique and custom pieces, and offers much more respectable working conditions, especially for women:

Top 2: Marie Langer shares her vision of EOS

In October 2019, Marie Langer was appointed CEO of EOS GmbH, one of the most important manufacturers in today’s additive manufacturing market. At Formnext, she shared her vision of the future and the group’s projects with DyeMansion. She believes that the future of additive manufacturing lies in reliable machines, impeccable service so that manufacturers can produce more, and decentralised manufacturing that will therefore be more environmentally friendly. A very important point for Marie: her customers must produce parts that will have a strong social and environmental impact. She tells us that she uses the new Chanel mascara every day, which includes a 3D printed brush!

Top 3: Nora Toure and the impact of 3D printing on logistics

In this TEDX Talk, Nora Toure shares her past experience in the maritime sector. It was through this experience that she realized the impact that additive manufacturing could have on supply chains. Her experience led her to found Women in 3D Printing back in 2014, to promote women leaders in the additive manufacturing industry. In the following TEDX Talk, Nora Toure highlights how 3D printing can offer a more distributed and optimized supply chain:

Top 4: Iris Van Herpen and her Hypnosis collection

Iris Van Herpen has been using additive manufacturing for several years now to design innovative and original haute couture clothing. 3D  printing technologies allow her to imagine all kinds of shapes and designs and to bring an extra touch to her collections. In this video, the artist shows us the entire creative process of his latest collection, Hypnosis, which combines several manufacturing techniques. The result is amazing!

Top 5: The Many Faces of Women in 3D printing

Chloe Taylor, Mara Hitner, and Shweta Thepa, all work with 3D printing technologies. But that’s not the only thing they have in common, they are also all part of Women in 3D Printing! In the following video, they explain the importance of having Women in 3D Printing to find support from other women in the AM sector. The group is a global community of women shaping the AM space every day, with the mission of increasing the visibility of women in the industry.
