This week’s Top 5 Videos about 3D printing include a huge variety of videos spanning a range of topics. We’ve included videos about 3D printed supercars, 3D printed turtle eggs to stop poaching, and 3D printed hearts to save lives in surgery. Remember to check out future Top 5 Videos episodes too, as we post a new Top 5 every Sunday.

1 – 3D Printed Cars – The Future

This video, made by us at 3Dnatives, shows the evolution of 3D printing in the automotive industry. Moreover, it shows how 3D printing has been used to enhance cars and create the supercars of the future. With the ability to completely customise parts and design, who wouldn’t want a 3D printed car?

2 – Fake 3D Printed Turtle Eggs

This first video shows how 3D printing is being used to crack down on poachers. Since in many cultures turtle eggs are a delicacy and the meats and shells are used for food and jewelry, enforcing poaching laws is uncommon. Therefore, conservationists 3D printed fake turtle eggs to track poachers’ movements when they took the egg. This allows them to plan to stop poachers from killing sea turtles and their eggs.

3 – 3D printing in Keter Plastics

Keter Plastics are a multi-billion dollar company and one of the largest plastic manufacturers in the world. They make objects such as chairs and furniture. This video shows how using BigRep 3D printers, Keter Plastics are able to design prototypes before putting anything into full production, allowing them more freedom of design.

4 – 3D Printed Bus Stop in Shanghai

In a world first, construction company WinSun built this 3D printed bus shelter from construction waste in Shanghai. This bus shelter can easily support up to 6 people, and shows how using waste materials can be used in conjunction with 3D printing to create something useful for society. You can read the full story here.

5 – 3D Printing in Medical Preparation

This video by 3D printing giant Stratasys shows how 3D printing can be used to save lives. By 3D printing with material similar to human heart tissue, trainee surgeons can practice on these fake hearts before they perform on a real person. This means surgeons will be better prepared, and make fewer mistakes, saving lives. Stay tuned, there might be a feature story about this coming soon.
