Top 1: Medical Imagery

Brian and Christopher Luizzi, owens the company Trinota, and are now using their resources to create medical modeling. The company creates medical imagery by using EnvisionTEC’s 3D printing technology to reshape how medical models are presented to surgeons, hospitals and doctors. The medical imagery is helping the patients understand the diagnosis and how to proceed.

Top 2: Biomimicry Project

Lilian van Daal, Industrial Product Designer, presented her newest biomimicry project the Radiolaria #1. The Radiolaria #1 is a 3D printed chair made out of a single material that incorporates all functionalities: flexibility, adaptability, firmness, and stability. With this project, Lilian van Daal continues her focus on improving, adjusting and innovating the production of soft-seating through nature’s laws. Here nature and the newest technology come together in the most efficient way sole using recycled polyamide (PA 12), provided by Oceanz 3D printing.

Top 3: Flexible Shoes

Simon Sörensen, the creator behind RcLifeOn, tested out how to 3D print shoes in flexible materials. With 3D printing materials offering not only hard plastics but surprisingly flexible filaments as well now. Check out how he used TPU, FilaFlex and NinjaFlex to print his shoes and how they held up to the test.

Top 4: Students reconstruct fingers

An unlikely group is helping one man who lost the use of his hand. It’s the young students at Mary Star of the Sea School, in Honolulu. They have a program 3D printing prosthetics for free. The program is helping people such as Mike Thomforde, that lost two of his fingers in a work accident. Now the students are developing prosthetics to help him move on from the trauma.

CNET have collected and shared their top 3 3D printing news. Containing the bionic eye prototype, developed by scientists at the University of Minnesota through 3D printing. Then there’s the Terrafugia TF-2 concept vehicle, that could possibly save you a trip to the airport for the future. Along with how a robotic hand have managed to “learn” improved dexterity.
