Dental 3D printer

We found the TOP 5 videos of the week related to 3D printing and collected the additive manufacturing here. Share your videos and comment on the article below or on the 3Dnatives’ Facebook or Twitter account. Hope you’ll enjoy and have a great Sunday!

Top 1: Dental 3D printer

Singapore-based company, Structo, has designed a dental 3D printer, the DentaForm. In the Video below Structo walks us through the process of creating dental gutters, from printing to post-processing when using the dental 3D printer. The machine is able to work continuously thanks to a facilitated print tray replacement. From there the post-processing is divided into two stages. Watch to learn more about the dental 3D printer and how it all works.

Top 2: 3D printed battery

In the process of designing a mobile phone, manufacturers have two options when it comes to lithium-ion batteries. The choice is between the standard sizes which requires larger devices and will take up space in the phone case. Or they can make expensive custom batteries. Not a third option could be offered coming up. Why not create a 3D printed battery? Today, the main challenge is finding a filament that is ion-conducting. A team of researchers sort to solve this. They began developing a 3D printed battery by integrating an electrolytic solution into the PLA. However, we remain far from commercialization; as the battery has a life of only one minute. But we are on the way!

Top 3: Nature in 3D printing

Nature is a great source of inspiration for many designers and artists. Taking inspiration from the shapes of plants, flowers, organisms, etc. The project “Parametric flowers” is a good example of just this. Thanks to stereolithography technology, we can now obtain flowers that are very similar to those that we could find in our garden. A project that echoes that developed by Nicole Hone. Check out how Nature in 3D printing looks like.

Top 4: Sustainable Building

The Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) presents in this video its work on 3D printing in the construction sector. IAAC has developed a material based on sand, clay and water to create structures that are more durable, strong and, above all, more respectful of the environment. This 3D printing sustainable building method could be the answer to the housing crisis that currently affects a little over a billion people worldwide. Check out their answer with sustainable building.

Top 5: Customised Razor

Customised design is a growing market and now it’s reaching into razors as well. Gillette has partnered up with Formlabs to customise their razor handles. Check out the cool designs and how a Boston startup is defining the 3D printing industry to Pilot Razor Maker™ Concept. They explain how the concept is enabling consumers to personalise their equipment and 3D Print Razor Handles to fit their style.
