Top 5 Videos: Exploring 3D Print Farms and Automation

Published on June 29, 2025 by Julia S.

Top 5 Videos is back! This month, we’re starting with a 3DExplained on how (and why) you could automate your 3D print farms. Then, we shift our focus to design, with our second video spotlighting 3D printed outdoor furniture, and our third video exploring how a university in New Zealand is using 3D printing for architecture and sculptural art. Then, we have a 3Dnatives video on integrating AI and AM, and finally, we end with a video from Formlabs that compares the speed of FDM, SLA and SLS processes. As always, happy watching!

Top 1: Exploring Problems with Automating Print Farms

Do you have a 3D print operation that you’re considering expanding or automating? Automation can simplify your workflow, but it does not come without challenges. Watch our video before you take the plunge. Here, our Technical Content Specialist explores the benefits and difficulties that come with automating a 3D print farm. He covers what steps can be automated, automating FDM printing, and the limits of automation.

Top 2: 3D Printing is Changing Architecture Education

Unitec School of Architecture in Auckland, New Zealand, is using 3D printing to reshape the way its faculty teaches architecture. The school created a Makerspace for their students, where they fabricate building models and more. In this video from Creality, Carl, a lecturer, talks through how the school teaches design and utilizes additive manufacturing technology. Discover how digital fabrication, design and architecture can mesh by hearing about student projects and more!

Top 3: Outdoor Furniture Design: Reimagining What’s Possible

More than just aesthetically pleasing, this 3D printed furniture is meant to withstand wear and tear. In this video, robot additive manufacturing company CEAD visits Benkert Bänke, the Bavarian family-run company that combines traditional stainless-steel craftsmanship with Large-Format Additive Manufacturing (LFAM) from CEAD Group. For over 40 years, Benkert Bänke has been fabricating public space solutions that are weather-resistant. Find out how the company is leveraging additive manufacturing to efficiently create pieces that are sustainable and durable in the video below.

Top 4: A Strong Pair: Artificial Intelligence Meets AM

At this moment in history, there are two powerful technologies at our fingertips: artificial intelligence and additive manufacturing. But how can the systems be optimally combined? This video takes you through some of the basics. AI can aid additive manufacturing throughout nearly every step of the additive workflow, whether it be by generating 3D models and making designs more efficient, or through predictive manufacturing. Learn about all the benefits in the video below, as well as the industries for which it is useful.

Top 5: What’s the Fastest? FDM vs. SLA vs SLS

We know 3D printing is fast. In-house AM can reduce lead times, saving weeks when it comes to creating prototypes, low-volume, or custom parts. It can allow for multiple iterations to be made in the span of days, without relying on external suppliers. But which 3D printing method is the fastest? Speed is not everything, (consider costs, quality and material), but it is still an important factor. This video from Formlabs explores three common plastic 3D printing techniques: FDM, SLA and SLS, comparing the technologies by speed. Tune into to see which technology is the most time-efficient!
