This week we found the top 5 videos about 3D printing and the way additive manufacturing is shaping our society. The technology has infiltrated many sectors, from medical to automotive! Check out our selection of the week to keep up with the innovations! This week we touch on 3D-printed food, a hybrid chair and much more! If you enjoy these, you can view even more 3D printing videos on our Youtube channel. Hope you’ll enjoy and have a great Sunday!

TOP 1: Concrete 3D printing

The project Concrete Choreography from students of ETH Zurich comprises 9 3D-printed concrete columns for a dance festival in Switzerland. The video follows the whole project, from CAD modelling to 3D printing with a robot arm. The result? 9 concrete structures 2.7 meters high, with various complex shapes. Once again, additive manufacturing impacts the architectural field!

TOP 2: A chair designed with hybrid manufacturing

The Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) has a specific goal: the integration of new technologies, especially additive manufacturing, into the architectural field. This time it presents a new project of a chair that was developed with the help of hybrid manufacturing, i.e. subtractive and additive methods. The chair prototype can carry the weight of a person of 100 kg while only weighing 2.5 kg. Compared to other plastic chairs (5 mm thick), the hybrid chair is only 3 mm thick in some areas.

TOP 3: 3D printing silicone for the medical sector

Additive manufacturing has many applications in medicine using different materials like high performance polymers or silicone. This video describes the advantages of 3D printing silicone for medical applications such as reconstructive surgery. The aim is to restore the body’s functions or normal appearance by reconstructing defective body parts. This way the patients can restore their self-confidence.

TOP 4: The future of 3D-printed food

In this report you will learn more about 3D printing food and new ways of meat production. In fact, there are several projects that are now focused on the production of 3D-printed meat. Most of the times it is plant based, with each company adding their own secret ingredients. Although most consumers are still skeptical about eating a 3D-printed steak, it could still be an alternative to environmentally harmful livestock farming.

TOP 5: The new 3D printer from Fromlabs

Do you know the new 3D printer from Formlabs, the Form 3, which is based on the Low Force Stereolithography technology? This video introduces the basics of the 3D printer, its key features and benefits, and explains how it works, from software to post-processing and compatible materials. The handling of this desktop machine is relatively simple and makes it an ideal tool for any professional.
