Top 5 Videos: 3D Printing Lunar Material in Space
With 2024 behind us, it is time to look ahead to see what innovation is to come. For a while, 3D printing companies have had their sights set on space, and Madison Feehan’s company Space Copy is certainly looking to the stars. Feehan is working to design 3D printers that could withstand conditions on the moon—and what’s more, print out of a lunar soil stimulant material. After watching her story, learn about how ORNL is printing nuclear components. Third, take a look at Bambu Lab’s tutorial on how to improve print surface quality, and then, dive into an incredible “underwater” art piece from an Anycubic creator. Finally, get an inside look TV personality Adam Savage’s upgraded 3D printing lab. As always, happy watching!
Top 1: Madison Feehan on Her Company Space Copy, Working for NASA
3D printing in space has been talked about for several years now, and companies like Luyten 3D have already been working on 3D printing construction in space. Twenty-one-year-old Madison Feehan has been passionate about space since she was a child. She has worked for NASA for five years and has even developed her own company, Space Copy, that aims to send a 3D printer to the moon by 2031. Watch the newsreel below to hear about her inspiring story.
Top 2: ORNL 3D Printing Nuclear Components
Discover how Idaho National Laboratory and Oak Ridge National Laboratory are revolutionizing nuclear research! Using ORNL’s innovative Simurgh algorithm, they’re cutting inspection times, improving safety, and advancing the development of 3D-printed nuclear components and fuels. Watch to see how this breakthrough technology is shaping the future of advanced nuclear reactors.
Top 3: Bambu Lab on How to Improve Surface Quality
Want to improve the surface quality of your 3D prints? This tutorial from Bambu Lab will show you how to achieve cleaner prints by hiding seams. Specifically, the video demonstrates how to adjust seam settings or manually place them so they do not interfere with the look of your prints. Watch the video and see how your prints could be brought to the next level!
Top 4: Inspiring Art: Anycubic’s Mystery Sea Creature
In this video from the Anycubic creator wAw Creator, watch as a transparent, underwater scene comes to life. The piece is a story of confrontation between man and nature, with a man swimming near a mystical sea animal. The creator used the Photon Mono M7 Max, featuring a 14.7L ultra-large print volume of 298mm x 164mm x 300mm, to create this miniature scene that takes place in the Pacific Ocean. It was printed with Texture Resin for true-to-life precision, allowing a high level of detail.
Top 5: Adam Savage’s 3D Printer Lab Upgrade
Did you know that Adam Savage, former host of the iconic TV show Mythbusters is also a 3D printing enthusiast? After having explored FDM printing and adding SLA printing into his builds, he decided to try his hand at SLS Nylon printing using the Formlabs Fuse. First, watch this new system get set up and calibrated in the “cave”, and then watch Adam attempt his first prints with sintered nylon.
