Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s top 5! We hope you are all looking forward to the festive season. Maybe you have asked for a 3D printer this year? Or what about a Peel3D handheld scanner? Our first video features the peel 3 scanner from the company- you can see how it is used to scan a car bonnet to create a 3D model. We also have 3Dnatives original content. In a partnership with Velo3D, we brought you their top 5 applications for metal additive manufacturing! You will also find videos from Stratasys, Matsuura, and Oerlikon. This selection covers everything from scanning solutions to dental printing to the AMTC conference, and more. We hope you enjoy!

Top 1: Peel3D Scanning Solution

First up from this week’s selection, we have a video from Peel3D, scanner manufacturers. Canada-based Peel3D (or peel 3d) offers professional-grade portable 3D scanners, for use in healthcare, engineering, art or product design, to name a few. This video features the peel 3, a handheld scanner; we see its use to scan the inside of a car bonnet. This scan is then used to produce a detailed 3D model on the computer of the inside of the car engine, which can then be used for example for repairs of damaged parts, to draw accurate replicas of the car, or even for automotive prototyping and design.

Top 2: Velo3D’s Metal AM Applications

Next up, we have a 3Dnatives original video. For this video, we partnered up with Velo3D to find out all about their metal AM solutions and the industries to which these solutions are applied. First, we looked at a fun application of metal 3D printing: their replica of Captain America’s shield from the Marvel movies. As an example of a large dome closure, the product is also the largest metal dome to have been printed without supports. To continue with the video, there is also a static mixer, which is a device designed for constant mixing of fluids. We also hear about the rocket thrust chamber, the zero degree impeller, and the sprue brushing. For more details of each application, and to hear from Velo3D themselves, you can find the video below!

Top 3: Matsuura’s AM Center Tour

Matsuura is a machine tool  manufacturing company headquartered in Fukui, Japan, but with a presence across Europe, including the UK. As part of their tooling, they use additive manufacturing technologies. This video consists of a brief tour of their additive manufacturing center in Leicestershire, UK. We see their machinery (they work with HP’s MJF Series, Roboze, Desktop Metal, ETEC, Matsuura LUMEX) and the parts made using this machinery. From the video, Matsuura creates parts in metal and ceramics, and possibly other materials too. The second half of the video, after an interlude to show the logos of the brands they work with, focuses more specifically on the printers. We also see a group of people touring the facilities.

Top 4: Stratasys’ Dental Printing Solutions

Stratasys is a regular feature in our top 5 weekly selection, being a key market player in additive manufacturing. They are well known for their dental AM solutions, which are applicable to bridges, arches, and crowns, to name a few. This week, we have a video about their full-colour dental solutions using the Stratayss J5 DentaJet printer. With this printer, dental models (such as arches) can be printed in full colour. The video features a step-by-step guide on how to achieve this, with the use of GrabCAD Print (version 1.71 onwards), 3Shape Dental System’s 2022 version, and My.Stratasys properties file.

Top 5: Oerlikon’s Event at AMTC 2022

Last but not least, we have a video from German manufacturer Oerlikon. This video is a talk from AMTC 2022 titled ‘Building Successful and Resilient Start-ups In Challenging Times’. AMTC (Additive Manufacturing Technology Conference) took place on October 11-12 2022 for the 5th time in Munich, Germany. In this video, we hear from a number of different companies which are former startups and take a look at their successful development. We learn about how they achieved this success and what they would recommend to others.
