Infographic: 3D Printing in the Maritime Industry
A few weeks ago, we took a look at the applications of additive manufacturing in the railway industry, and now it is time to take a closer look at the impact of 3D technologies on the maritime sector. This sector encompasses a wide range of activities: shipbuilding, freight and passenger transport, port operations, fishing, and so on. We’ll be focusing mainly on ships – boats and submarines – to understand how 3D printing has become an essential tool, whether in their manufacture, supply chain management or performance enhancement.
The aim of this infographic is to provide an understanding of the various applications of technology in the sector – from the production of spare parts to customization elements inside boats – as well as to look back at key figures and dates that have marked the sector. Did you know, for example, that a 180-kilogram keel was 3D printed in aluminum, incorporating stiffeners to improve overall performance? And that’s just one example. Please feel free to comment at the bottom of the article and share other examples of 3D printing applications in the maritime sector!
