Flashforge, an industry leader in desktop 3D printers, recently introduced its latest Adventurer 5M 3D printer series, launched on September 1, 2023. The series, consisting of the Flashforge Adventurer 5M and 5M Pro 3D printers, follows the success of the Finder and Adventurer series. With these newest machines, the company’s goal is to focus on high-speed additive manufacturing, improve professional performance and make desktop 3D printing more efficient.

In particular, the company seems to be focusing on the new Adventurer 5M Pro 3D printer, whose speed, stability, ease of use and safety are emphasized by Flashforge. This performance-optimized model also has an affordable price point and is particularly aimed at hobbyists, students, teachers and professionals new to 3D printing. But what can you expect from this newest product? What are its technical features? What applications are possible with Flashforge’s new Adventurer 5M Pro 3D printer? We took a closer look.

A Fast, Stable and Safe FDM 3D Printer

The Adventurer 5M Pro features a compact closed-chamber design and a CoreXY motion system, making this machine stable and reliable. More specifically, the key features of the Adventurer 5M Pro are a higher printing speed (compared to the Adventurer 4 Pro version), one-click auto-leveling, quick-swap nozzles (which can be replaced intuitively in seconds), an enclosed chamber and dual air filtration. These features make it the ideal model even for beginners and for various applications such as creating everyday objects, models and educational objects in schools. This also includes up to more professional applications such as making decorative interior objects, molds or artwork.

The enclosed chamber with dual air-circulation systems is one of the machine’s flagship features, as it minimizes contact with polluting and harmful particles for users. This is especially important for educators, researchers and makers who work for long periods of time in enclosed spaces such as classrooms and labs, given the now well-known health risk of prolonged use of FDM 3D printing in inadequately ventilated spaces. But what about the more technical features?

Main Features of Flashforge’s Adventurer 5M Pro

In terms of technical specifications, the Adventurer 5M Pro machine can reach a printing speed of 600mm/s (compared to 300mm/s in the previous Adventurer 4 Pro) while the nozzle can reach a temperature of 200°C in 35s and reach a maximum temperature of 280°C (compared to 265°C in the Adventurer 4 Pro).

As for the enclosed chamber, this also enables improved temperature control, a key factor for printing demanding filaments such as ASA and ABS. For example, the improved temperature control can prevent the first layer from warping and lack of adhesion. In addition, the enclosed chamber effectively reduces noise generated by running fans and axes during printing, operating in low noise mode at only 50dB.

The machine is also particularly handy and easy to install, according to the manufacturer. Another interesting feature is the 4.3-inch LCD touchscreen, with vibrant colors and an intuitive interface for running and controlling the printer. The Adventurer 5M Pro has a built-in camera that facilitates remote monitoring; while for software, Flashforge recommends its Flashprint 5 software or the open-source one OrcaSlicer.

On the materials side, with nozzles of 0.4 mm/0.6 mm (default) and 0.25/0.8 mm (optional) the Adventurer 5M Pro can process a wide range of filaments even in high-speed mode: PLA; PETG; ABS; ASA; PLA-CF; PETG-CF and TPU.

The different nozzles available on the Adventurer 5M Pro allow varying degrees of detail and speed when printing a part

Flashforge’s Adventurer 5M Pro concludes as a fast, accurate, easy-to-use and safe 3D printer. The machine, in accordance with the manufacturer’s policy and given its intended audience, is also affordable. Falling within the category of low-cost, high-speed desktop FDM 3D printers on the market, with a price tag of $599 (versus $399 for the 5M).
