How Chat3D Uses Custom Software to Optimize 3D Modeling Workflows

3D modeling is now at the heart of many industries, from video games and animation to additive manufacturing. However, it is not always easy to implement and can sometimes be ill-suited to real-world conditions. This is precisely the challenge that Chat3D aims to address. The French technology company specializes in developing custom software for 3D creation. Rather than trying to replace artists, the company focuses on technological building blocks that can automate certain tasks and integrate directly into existing workflows. The goal is not to rely solely on artificial intelligence, but to rethink 3D modeling solutions so they better adapt to each user’s specific needs. We spoke with the Chat3D team to learn more about their approach, their vision for machine learning applied to 3D modeling, and their ambitions for the coming years.

3DN : Could you briefly introduce yourself and tell us about Chat3D?

Chat3D is a technology company specializing in the development of custom software for 3D modeling. We mainly work with video game and animation studios, as well as marketplaces, creating technological solutions tailored to their real production pipelines, including blocking, texturing and rigging. Our approach is based on a deep understanding of artistic workflows and on developing targeted technological building blocks that integrate directly into the tools artists already use.

From left to right: Félix Balmonet (CEO), Glenn Avezoux (CTO), and Guillaume Magnies (COO), the Chat3D management team.

3DN : Why did you create Chat3D?

Chat3D was born from a simple observation: 3D modeling has become extremely complex, even as the number of tools continues to grow without always adapting to real production constraints. Our initial ambition was to use technology to make 3D creation more accessible through a web-based 3D modeling application. Very quickly, however, our work in the field showed us that the real value did not lie in general-purpose tools, but in solutions capable of integrating seamlessly into existing workflows.

This led us to reposition Chat3D as a technology partner, able to develop custom tools designed to accelerate specific stages of the production pipeline without disrupting existing teams.

3DN : What are the key features of your platform, and what sets it apart from competing solutions?

Unlike many solutions focused on “one-click” operations or full automation, Chat3D takes a modular and targeted approach. We do not aim to replace artists, but rather to automate repetitive tasks, structure production workflows, and improve productivity where it has a real impact.

Our differentiation is based on three pillars:

  • Software designed around existing workflows
  • Custom systems tailored to each studio’s specific constraints
  • Technology developed in direct collaboration with artists and producers

3DN : What makes Chat3D well-suited for additive manufacturing?

Our approach, based on modular technological building blocks and a strict respect for production constraints, makes our tools particularly well-suited to demanding environments such as additive manufacturing. We are able to develop solutions that take geometric, structural, and file preparation constraints into account early in the process, in order to produce files that are directly ready for production.

Once again, our priority is reliability and compatibility with existing production workflows.

3DN : What is your long-term vision for machine learning applied to 3D modeling?

We believe that machine learning only creates value when it is integrated into practical systems that are used on a daily basis. In the long term, our vision is to make machine learning a seamless, behind-the-scenes infrastructure that supports artists and production teams, capable of increasing productivity without ever taking control of the creative process.

This involves developing specialized tools, built step by step, and working in close collaboration with end users to ensure natural adoption.

3DN : You recently raised funds. How will this accelerate your development?

This funding round will allow us to accelerate our work along two key areas. First, we will strengthen our research and development teams to design tools that are even better suited to real production environments. Second, we will expand our production studio, Overnight Studio, which serves as an operational laboratory where we can test, measure, and improve our technologies under real conditions.

3DN : Any final words for our readers?

Technology only creates value when it works in real production environments. At Chat3D, we believe in a pragmatic approach, built with and for artists, to create tools that integrate naturally into existing workflows and deliver measurable results.
