Carpenter Additive, the new end-to-end AM solutions business unit

Carpenter Technology Corporation has announced that it is launching a new business unit dedicated to advancing its additive manufacturing segment, Carpenter Additive. The company is a leader in high-performance specialty alloys and this new division will build upon its existing position as a powder metals supplier. Carpenter Additive’s capabilities will span the entire AM process, from supplying highly engineered, gas atomised powders, providing metal powder lifecycle management solutions, etc., to industrial-scale AM and full post-processing capabilities.

Chief Executive Officer Tony R. Thene said, “From powder production to manufacturing and finishing parts, the full spectrum of our capabilities is what differentiates Carpenter Additive from the rest of the AM industry. We are revolutionizing how customers approach this disruptive technology by offering end-to-end solutions through an array of technical expertise, powder production, parts production and material lifecycle management. Carpenter Additive is working with our customers and driving industry-wide change.

Founded in 1889, the company has evolved since its founding year to become a leading provider of specialty alloys, including titanium, nickel and cobalt as well as alloys specifically engineered for additive manufacturing processes and soft magnetics applications. With this recent expansion and launch of Carpenter Additive, essentially, it will provide a complete end-to-end solution to accelerate materials innovation and streamline parts production for industrial clients.

In fact, metal additive manufacturing in recent years has been transforming manufacturing and could replace for some applications traditional manufacturing methods by enabling the creation of complex parts. The industries Carpenter Additive believes it will have influence over include aerospace, energy, transportation, consumer products, medical devices and industrial. It should be able to provide the right materials for these sectors as well as support through the whole manufacturing process.
