Carbon Talks Staying on the Cutting Edge of Resin 3D Printing at RAPID + TCT

If you are interested in resin 3D printing, you have probably heard of Carbon. The company has made quite a name for itself with its innovative DLS process that includes a pocket of air to ensure easier and faster printing. This has lead to some pretty amazing applications as well, including with adidas for 3D printed shoes. But they have not stopped there. The 3D printer manufacturer is constantly innovating, and that is one of the things that Carbon most wants to highlight with its presence at RAPID + TCT this year. We spoke with Gary Miller to learn more.
3DN: Could you introduce yourself?
Sure, I’m Gary Miller, one of the Production Success Managers at Carbon. Prior to Carbon, I operated as a service bureau for 18 years, utilizing many additive technologies.
3DN: What is Carbon showcasing at RAPID + TCT this year?
This year, we will be showcasing our engineering-grade materials that allow customers to go from prototyping to production on the same platform, cutting down product development cycles and tooling costs while enabling them to develop better products and bring them to market in less time.
We are excited to share some recent applications that were produced with our best-in-class industrial printers and look forward to seeing how our platform of hardware, software, and materials can meet the product needs of visitors here at the show.

Materials will be front and center at the show
3DN: What do you expect from the show? What are you the most excited about?
I expect to see a line-up of the latest and greatest 3D printing/AM solutions. Although Formnext in Germany was only five months ago, advancements in Carbon’s world never slow down. From new material developments to cutting-edge software upgrades, there is always something new on the horizon.
This event promises an exciting array of fresh introductions and technological advancements, starting with our own showcase and extending to other key players in the industry. Beyond the innovations, these gatherings also offer a valuable opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces, fostering collaboration and shared enthusiasm for the future of additive manufacturing.

3DN: What is a common misconception, either about your products or AM in general?
Probably that the be-all and end-all is the 3D printer itself. While obviously important, from our perspective at Carbon, it’s really the full ecosystem of hardware, software, and materials that enable us to solve hard problems and empower creators to make better products and bring them to market quicker. One of Carbon’s greatest strengths is having vertically integrated teams that work together so tightly.
To that end, we aim to inspire the design engineering community as to what is achievable, as this group is less concerned about the specs of the machine they’re using to build a product, and more focused on the specs of the product that they’re trying to build.

Carbon enables a full ecosystem covering the entire 3D printing process with its solutions
3DN: What would you tell attendees to invite them to RAPID + TCT and to stop by the Carbon booth?
Sticking with traditional product manufacturing will only ever deliver traditional levels of benefits, but this event unlocks a door into a completely new way of doing things. Come by and speak to the Carbon team at booth #2848; we’ll walk through the door with you to understand your objectives and then help you transform the way you design and make products so they deliver the enhanced performance, comfort and protection required of them.
3DN: Any last words for our audience?
Drink up the show, speak to those exhibitors relevant to your needs and have plenty of conversations with engineers and material specialists, but consider your options carefully before making any decisions. There are a lot of vendors crowding this space, offering very similar solutions, so it can be a minefield. You don’t just want to be sold a grey box and left to work out what to do with it. If the vendor is as focused as you are on the end-use application and final product that you want to make – or make better and faster – then you’re on the right track.
