This position works under limited supervision and is primarily responsible for managing facility drawings and the drawing database. This position also produces project drawings utilizing Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) tools, updates drawings to as-built state, manages technical drawing database and works on project implementation. The technical designer will primarily support the Americas sites with close cooperation to a Global Documentation Team. There are 4 sites in Wisconsin, 1 site in New Jersey and 1 Brazilian site. Some travel should be expected. This position can be located at our West Allis, Madison or Wausau, WI site.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities (* = Essential Functions )

  • * Maintains drawing database for all sites in Americas Program. This includes updating any drawings to “as-built” status from red-line documents during internal changes. It also includes coordination and management of documentation from suppliers during CAPEX projects.
  • * Creates and modifies drawings produced by engineers and other internal customers.
  • * Develops piping, electrical, building and equipment layouts.
  • * Proactively supports Maintenance departments at the sites to assist in master data for CMMS.
  • Partners with Global Documentation Team on development of standards and best practices
  • Acts as project manager for design and implementation of smaller scale projects. Implements the approved design and supervises the installation.
  • Interacts with outside suppliers to provide equipment specifications and review quotations.
  • Supports engineering and maintenance departments on CAD software and plotter hardware.


  • Must have the knowledge of how to use a plotter, AutoCAD 2D, 3D Drawing Tools.
  • Knowledge of P&I Diagrams and familiarity with manufacturing plants.
  • Possess a working knowledge in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Familiar with CMMS for maintenance organizations.
  • Experience with documentation management and quality assurance in database systems.
  • The ability to write reports.
  • The ability to work in a team environment
  • Organizational and analytical skills are required.
  • The ability to read documents and instructions.
  • Written and oral communication skills are essential.
  • The ability to address complaints and resolve problems.
  • Must be able to use measuring devices (tape measure, micrometer and scales).
  • May require travel up to 30%.
  • These characteristics are normally acquired through an Associates degree in Computer Aided Drafting from a technical based or trade school. A minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design utilizing CAD or additional years of education and experience may be substituted for each other, as determined by Human Resources.
