Randstad is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Tool Designer to join our team, focusing on the exciting field of 3D printed tooling. Profile
What You’ll Do: You’ll serve as the bridge between design and production, ensuring our teams have the specialized equipment they need to work quickly and accurately.
- Design & Model: Create basic to moderately complex fixtures, jigs, and custom tools using 3D CAD software (e.g., Creo, Fusion 360, SolidWorks).
- Additive Manufacturing: Operate and maintain various 3D printers (FDM, SLA, etc.) to produce high-quality, physical tools from your designs.
- Rapid Iteration: Modify and refine existing tool designs based on immediate feedback from production, enabling quick improvements to processes.
- Continuous Improvement: Partner closely with production staff to understand tooling requirements and contribute to ongoing factory optimization and workflow enhancements.
- Documentation: Maintain meticulous design files, revision logs, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all tools.
What You Bring:
- Experience: 2+ years of relevant experience with 3D modeling and slicing software.
- Technical Acumen: Familiarity with operating and troubleshooting 3D printers and a foundational understanding of mechanical design principles.
- Education: An Associate’s degree in Drafting, Mechanical Technology, Industrial Design, or a related field; OR a technical certification and equivalent hands-on experience in CAD and 3D printing.

Responsibilities
Responsible for driving manufacturing efficiency through the full lifecycle of 3D printed tooling and fixtures. This involves leveraging 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360) to rapidly design and iterate complex jigs and fixtures used in assembly and production processes. Key duties include hands-on operation and maintenance of 3D printers, swift modification of existing designs based on user feedback, and close collaboration with production teams to identify tooling needs and contribute to overall continuous improvement initiatives.
- Design and engineer complex jigs, fixtures, and custom tools using 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360) to optimize manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Manage the entire additive manufacturing workflow, including operating and maintaining FDM/SLA 3D printers and preparing files using slicing software.
- Rapidly prototype, test, and iterate tool designs based on direct feedback from production teams to ensure functional fit and form, dramatically reducing downtime.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing and assembly personnel to analyze tooling requirements and identify opportunities for continuous process improvement.
- Maintain comprehensive design documentation, revision control, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all manufactured tooling
