If you’re looking for a new eco-friendly sneaker for this summer, then two design students from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw may have just what you need. Students Zuzanna Gronowicz and Barbara Motylinska have come together to craft a customizable 3D printed sneaker that is helping to bring fashion, sustainability and 3D printing even closer together.

Working with manufacturer ZMorph’s Multitool 3D Printer, the students are able to create each unique piece using eco-friendly material, simultaneously taking away the general waste that is typically found within the fashion and retail industries.

Similar to what is seen with companies such as Adidas , these students are bringing their own twist to sustainable manufacturing, using their own unique method to manufacture their shoes. This method consists of printing parts of the shoe directly onto wool and cotton, giving their customers a more flexible, breathable shoe that is printed without the extra work found in typical shoe manufacturing processes.

Through an application that was created by the students, potential customers can input their foot measurements and can choose the colors and style that they want. An added bonus to their app is that app users have the opportunity to choose to order the shoe from the manufacturers directly, or they can save it as an STL file to 3D print themselves.

Although their shoes aren’t ready for the market quite yet, we are sure that they will be making a name for themselves quickly in the 3D printing world. Bringing us more innovative and sustainable ideas for the future!
