The researchers from the Nanyang Technological University and the University of Waseda are working on the improbable auxiliary equipment of the sauvetage: they are equipped with the living insects of combinaisons sous-marines imprimées en 3D qui leur permetettent d’évoluer en milieu inondé.
The animal association and the electronic controller porte a name: the cyborg insect, a hybrid that exploits the déjà façonné par la nature plutôt que de chercher à le reproduire. As part of the leaf siffleuses of Madagascar, the team combines the natural aptitudes of the insects with a « sac à dos » de commande existing and a respiratory system imprimé in 3D new conçu, the rendant ainsi amphibians.
On the ground, this robustness is already there. A fois ceux-ci immergés, the insect is not present plus the air. This is precisely the problem that the researchers have on the basis of the information.
A combinaison de plongée imprimée en 3D
The solution? This is a vertical plane: a 3D printed envelope that covers the abdomen, distinct from the sac with the commands that pilot the placements. Within 2 minutes, the autonomy is reduced.
Adapter that combines a living insect with a practical and delicate appearance. Three contradictions to the process, including the 3D impression, cannot be achieved simultaneously.

This piece is imprimée sur mesure, au plus près du corps de l’insecte concerné. The master piece is an oxygen reservoir printed in 3D, realized in a transparent resin of type PMMA, chimiquement proche de l’acrylique. In the interior, a long impregnée of manganese dioxide reacts with a peu de peroxide d’hydrogène pour duire de l’oxygène, acheminé par de fins tubes en silicone directement jusqu’aux orifices respiratoires de l’insecte. The envelope surrounding the reservoir is imprimée in a résine souple: it accompanies the movements of the cafard au lieu de les contrarier.
Hirotaka Sato’s cyborg insects were deployed in real research and operational operations, notified in the Lionheart squad, after the magnitude 7.7 seismic event in Mars 2025. The team Travaille désormais à étendre la technologie à l’inspection d’infrastructures.
“The oxygen generation and oxygen directivity are directed against the respiratory orifices of the insect, permeating the cyborg survival and being displaced from the water or in the oxygen environment,” explains Hirotaka Sato, professor at the Ecole Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at NTU Singapore.
The team at this time for the riders has an approach that allows them to escape from the cafard.
