The company Ultimaker, founded in 2011,  is a 3D printer manufacturer based in The Netherlands. The company was founded by Martijn Elserman, Erik de Bruijn, and Siert Wijnia in Utrecht, a big city of The Netherlands. The founders were inspired by the RepRap project, which allowed them to experiment with a free desktop 3D printer and open source designs to create their first 3D solution.

Ultimaker’s first solution was the Original, a 3D printer kit that you could assemble yourself. The kit borrowed many of RepRap’s elements, but focused on enabling better speed and quality. Today, Ultimaker’s aim is to provide 3D printing solutions that are accessible and user-friendly for the professional market. The company makes desktop FDM 3D printers, develops 3D printing software and sells its own 3D printing materials.

Ultimaker’s Product Line

As mentioned, the Original was the first 3D solution from the manufacturer. Instead of bringing a product to market and creating the next version of it internally, they shared the design files openly and listened to the feedback of their customer community. This allowed Ultimaker to improve on its solution very quickly and supply customers with a 3D printer that truly responded to their needs. The next version of Ultimaker’s hardware, the Ultimaker 2 family was launched in 2015.

As of today, the manufacturer’s product line includes the Ultimaker S5, Ultimaker 3 series, Ultimaker 2+ series and Ultimaker Original+. Their latest release is the Ultimaker S3 and the S5 Pro Bundle for their S5 3D printer.  You can view the 3D printers and compare their specs below!
